Richard's meltdown with Hwy417E to Montreal

Montreal, Quebec, Canada
It's bloody raining and we are leaving for Montreal why does it always rain when we are packing the car. Does God want us to have another shower. Couldn't find Anita in the building, tried getting Catherine but left a message saying we want a copy of the invoice For GST refund when we leave Canada. A few of the places we have been to just like emailing an invoice which is a
pain.

When the rain eased I went across the road to video and take a photo of the apartment building as a reminder of my meltdown and to do a review on Trip Advisor BAD WIFI CONNECTION. We had relaxed enough, time was marching on and I can't see Catherine coming over on a Saturday hopefully she will email the invoice and I can print it with the other ones I have at Hotel Universel in Montreal (there is a printer there guests can use). Quick check and clean of the apartment put a note with the key saying Anita didn't give us a Parking Pass don't want to be charged $29.00 and about the invoice. Put key in the box in the hallway the rain had eased and we are now on our way to Montreal.

With the road closure of Rideau Street we had to do a detour and Jill was good and picked this up and put us in the direction to Hwy 417 East to Montreal. Getting on Hwy 417 East was another thing so much road construction at the entry and exit turn offs that Richard had a meltdown. It took five attempts to get on the correct turn off to Hwy 417 East what with cones, turn off ramps before forks in the highway, rain and constant traffic. Not looking properly at the GPS or listening to me I thought Richard was going to stop the car and walk away or explode. With concentrating and working as a team we finally made it onto Hwy 417 East and with the tension gone the demister on the front window, plus my window partly down for fresh air we were right. I gave Richard a 12 out of 10 for his episode which was nearly as good as mine it is good that we can laugh at ourselves.

At the start of Hwy 417 East there is a lot of cones and roadworks the autumn leaves here are changing to orange and reds would love to take a photo but it is constantly raining. The cars are flying passed us even in the pelting it is just like when we were driving to Niagara Falls minus the excessive traffic plus you don't see as many semi's or silly tourists like us. The scenery at Vars (Hwy88 turn off) has changed to farmland lots of corn fields even saw a large Vehicle Auction Yard.

In less than two hours we are in the Quebec Province the highway here needs resurfacing in some long sections and the cones here are white with bright iridescent orange bands. From Hwy 26 turn off the traffic starts to get heavy the Hwy 417 changes to Hwy 40 and it has stopped raining. We are now in the outer residential area of Montreal on a three lane highway there is a lot of roadworks as we are getting closer to Montreal. Crossed over Saint Laurent a massive river that Montreal is on. The highway is one big construction site three lanes with under and over roads. The traffic is near stand still and it is everyone for themselves. It is Saturday mid day I would hate to see what it is like on a work night in peak hour traffic.

We were glad to get off the highway and into the residential area to Hotel Universel quite a big hotel with secure parking. Everything is in French so Richard and I will be having fun we sort of gist what things mean plus we do know how to say “Do you speak English” in French. Everyone is french here or speaks french but they do speak English. Lot of people checking in at noon so we were glad not to wait till 3pm plus we were tired and stressed from driving in the rain from Ottawa.

Our room is on the sixth floor and we can see our car in the carpark. Just brought up what we needed and the WIFI works here. The room is very nice small fridge loaded what I could from the esky to keep cold. It was nice to have a cup of coffee, relax and have lunch.

Checked and caught up with emails paid some bills, left Skype video messages to Linda, terry and Diana. Started downloading entries into Travelpod boy am I behind by a whole week. Got to remember which photos to to download into the blog.

No microwave so we have cold chicken from last night with tomato and burpless cucumber for dinner.

Skyped Mandy as we were a bit worried about her and had a lovely long conversation, then I Skyped Lisa for updates on the rentals and let her know I emailed her a covering letter and Water Usage account for Kallaroo. Lisa had just opened my email when I Skyped so she said when she goes to Whitfords she will drop the letter off to Georgina. Kallaroo inspection was good
Georgina is looking after the property only a few weeds in the garden but it has been raining.

Nice big king bed so it won't be long before we drift off to dreamland.
