Interesting day in the Bachelor Pad

Montreal, Quebec, Canada
Very noisy hotel our room is close to the lift entrance and you hear the doors bang every time someone walks down the corridor. The walls are a bit thin too so you can hear people talking glad we have our earplugs but we don't have to wear our blinkers as the room is nice and dark.

At 6am I was woken by a family with young children leaving early and then the steady stream of other people going. At 6.45am I couldn't lay in bed anymore told Richard to put his blinkers on as I was going to have a shower. It is a lovely modern rain shower and I am enjoying it. Made a coffee for the both of us Richard stayed in bed till 8am while I started yesterdays blog document and downloaded photos. I saw that Gerard was online Richard put down his ipad and had a long Skype conversation with him and of course they talked about the Dockers being in the Grand Final.

Looked online for free walking tours in old Montreal and the one we wanted doesn't do tours at the beginning of the week so had to find other ones. Left that little chore for Richard while I went down to Reception to print off some vacation rental invoices that were emailed to us and I hadn't been given a hard copy. I couldn't hook the Lobby printer to my laptop so Micheal at Reception said to email to him and he will print them off for me. Great so now I have all my receipt invoices. Micheal went online to find the nearest Walmart for me plus where we were going to stay for
the next few days. Low and be hold it was just around the corner in Rue Viau the hotel is on the corner of Rue Viau and Sherbrooke. I didn't know I was that good at finding a hotel so close good old Google.

Found some free walking tours online so went back down to Reception and printed the four tours but first I had to ask Micheal how to print because the printer (page) is in french. Now we are right for doing the walking tours on our own plus I know where the Information Centre is because Micheal gave me a free map and marked where the Metro Rail Stations where we get off and the
number of the bus we take to Chalet du Mont-Royal on top of the mountain (hill) which overlooks Montreal and Saint Laurent River.

Another helpful gentleman at Reception said when we check out we can leave our car in the carpark catch the hotel shuttle to the Botanical Gardens and park then the metro and pick us up at the end of the day. I said thank you but we were going to our next accommodations to check in.

Richard borrowed a hotel luggage trolley from Reception we loaded everything on packed the car and went down the road (Rue Viau) to our “Bachelor's Pad”. It may have been raining but it is bloody cold outside and the wind goes right through you.

Walmart is off Rue Sherbrooke a couple of kms away but we ended up going to Metro Supermarket for our meat, eggs and some veggies. Good fun everything is in French. Nearly all
the people we see look so unhappy and boy do they smoke, everywhere you look outside people are smoking.

All the homes/duplexes are two storey's with a basement we found 2370 Rue Viau parked in the driveway but couldn't get the key code box open. Luckily Yannick's wife pulled in and showed us the apartment which is in the basement or we would not have know which one it was, as there are three apartments. The owner Yannick and his family live in No.1.

Well this apartment is an eye opener not quite what you see online and the reviews on Trip Advisor are not quite the same as what we saw or smelt. Richard and I just looked at each other and said “well it is only for two nights!!”  Why it is so cheap is because you clean before you leave and all the other people before us have never cleaned.

The rest of the day was spent cleaning, washing, sweeping the floors twice, bathroom, all the bench tops, inside the fridge and top of stove before we settled in. Nearly forgot had to make the foldout bed as well. Now we can bring our things in and settle for the next two nights. Sent an email to Yannick telling him the previous people had not cleaned and we cleaned what we were going to use.

Too tired to explore the area around us which is where the Olympics were held back in the 70's. The village is opposite the Hotel Universel and the stadium and park on the other side. Richard just wanted a petrol cap lock for the Pontiac because on the news they said there were a lot of break-ins in Montreal especially cars. Went the wrong way first (back to Walmart) so I got the milk I forgot and then we went to Canadian Tire. The petrol lock was bloody expensive over $5.00 of taxes saw some coffee filter machines there they are cheap and as I said to Richard another thing to carry and we may not be able to use it in Perth. On the way back we pulled into Esso for petrol $1.349 and Richard was hungry so we had to go to Tim Hortons for a Boston Cream Donut and thank god he is now sick of them.

While I was cooking dinner Yannick came down to apologies for the condition of the unit and explained how to use the TV plus marked on our map sights to see. He is over 6' and his head is nearly touching the low ceiling lovely Frenchman and very helpful.

Had a near disaster with cooking the pork loin, smoke everywhere the exhaust I tried to clean before but there is too much fat in the filters so no where for fumes to go. I thought I was turning the hotplate down but I was turning the knob for the one in front nearly burnt the pork but it turned out okay. There is limited kitchen utensils very base so one has to compromise and thankfully I have microwave containers I can use of my own.

Richard was in his own world watching a Clint Eastwood movie and catching up on thing on his ipad. We were both tired and had had enough of today so we both were naughty and had a sleeping pill to forget our worries and have a good nights sleep.
