It is so nice to sleep in a comfortable bed, no worries, up to date with my blog except for photos which I will download when I have time. I see a few people have looked at the blog since I downloaded ten days of where we have been. Stayed in bed till 7am and had the usual morning coffee in bed Richard checked online to see if the Dockers won the Grand Final but they didn't. We felt sorry for Gerard as he is a staunt Docker Supporter will have to send him an email with our condolences.
I have come to the conclusion that people who operate vacation rentals design bathrooms and kitchens to taunt travellers. It must be a test you have to pass taps and showers are different at every apartment same goes for ovens and microwaves, plus washing machines and dryers. When you are tired and hungry the last thing you want is to be tested in the bathroom and kitchen. Stop complaining Dawn as Richard would say while he relaxes with his ipad.
Left Richard in bed while I had fun with the little kitchen sink washing my hair then the silly shower that has a curtain right around you. Boy will I be glad to get back to my own Ensuite and kitchen with normal equipment that works properly. While Richard showered I packed everything ready at the door then Richard parked the car on the road (must be able to do this on the weekend) and packed the car. Had breakfast and lastly it was time to go 9.30am which I thought was a reasonable time to knock on Gilles door for a receipt which he didn't give me yesterday. He said a naughty word when he opened the door (it rhymes with duck!!). Anyway after some time Richard got the receipt which was incorrect had to change it in the car. Took a photo of the mad highway said goodbye to old Quebec and we were off.
Back in the routine of concentrating on the GPS navigating our way out of Quebec found a petrol station on the way (only a quarter tank) $134.4 and back to concentrating on the road. On Hwy 73 a maze of roads going everywhere will hate it if Perth ever gets like this but then we don't have the population plus the government would have to knock down houses to build the big highways like there are in Canada or overseas. When we were going over the River Lawrence on a two lane (one way) bridge the fog was as thick as pea soup clinging to the river and sides. Glad there are two bridges so you don't had a head on. Took exit 131E lots of roadworks so we have to be careful till we turned into Hwy 20E 184kms to Riviere-Du-Loup.
The traffic is heavy for a Saturday morning still have a mild fog, sky full of clouds with the sun trying to shine. The fog could be from all the industry area we are passing through can see smoke coming from chimney stacks at the Petro Canada Refinery. The scenery is changing back to the countryside with the autumn coloured sugar maples in between the towns we are passing.
The high tension power lines are back on the scene haven't seen those for a while. The fog is taking its time to lift as it is like pea soup in sections not very nice to drive it and lucky there is no on coming traffic. The two lane highway is separated by land in between so no head ons only run off the road.
AH, the clouds have gone and the sun is out once we passed the turn off at Hwy 330. Farmland now with fields of corn, soy bean and canola I think separated by maple trees and every now and then we get glimpses of the River Lawrence as we drive up the coast. The scenery changes with rolling hills not much flat farmland can see lots of silos for grain storage on the farms and there are larger hills in the background. The traffic is easing now and Richard can relaxing and enjoy the countryside with the warm sun on us.
Morning tea time and up ahead on turn off 400 there is a Tim Horton's Richard is now going French eating Croissants I have my usual muffin with our coffee. Decided to cross the bridge and have a look at St-Jean-Port-Joli a pretty town parked at the beautiful church walked through the old cemetery to the Marina on the River Lawrence. The tide is out and the water is very brackish (sea water) young lad caught a fish with his Nan took a photo, bit cool so we went back to the car and had lunch.
Would love to know the history of the church and surrounding buildings but everything is in french and the lady at the Information Centre only spoke French. Stopped at the IGA there for chicken and Pineapple for tonight’s dinner.
Back on Hwy 20E again and the next bridge we passed there was the first lot of roadworks and cones along the side of the road for the next 10kms the lanes on the other side has just been resurfaced. One bad thing while driving on Hwy 20E all you can smell is fertiliser so one cannot have the window down for fresh air it makes the car stink. Can see glimpses of River Lawrence
and a lovely big section when we came to St-Roch-Des-Aulnaises lots of farms on the other side with many silos.
Finally came to the 503 turn off on to Hwy 132 to go to Riviere-Du-Loup where we will be staying in a cabin for the next two nights. Quite a large town missed the street but we eventually got there to Motel Au Fleuve d'Argent. Reception very nice and we are still in french speaking Quebec we are in Cabin No. 16 with views of the River Lawrence plus we have four muffins (breakfast for two mornings I think). Cabin is very small you can't swing a cat in it but it will do for now and it is clean that is the main thing. Richard had a sleep after the long drive and I caught up with the blog, entering receipts in GST expense spreadsheet and emails.
After Richards little rest we walked round the motel area to the view of the river then up and down Fraser Street where the motel is and there are a lot of hotel/motels, B&B's in this street taking advantage of the river views. Nearly got attacked by a black dog at the other end of the street the silly thing doesn't understand English lucky the owner came out and got it.
Back at the cabin Richard was happy because there were English speaking TV stations and he could relax in front of the TV once he could get on the Internet (only two bands a bit slow). I sent an email the his mate Nick and also Gerard with our condolences the Dockers lost the Grand Final.
I had a minor meltdown last night Richard wanted rice with the chicken and the plastic bowl I used changed shape in the microwave. Richard kept out of my way the kitchen was very small not enough cooking utensils and I had one mishap after the other. Richard was killing himself laughing and only gave me four out of ten for my episode. Anyway dinner turn out great with pineapple for dessert.
It is amazing what a shower can do for you. Looked at the map and went online to New Brunswick Tourism as we need to plot out our journey seeing we have only thirty odd days left before we go home. Time flies when you are having fun. Will do this tomorrow a bit tired now. Watched TV then went to bed.
