Rustico, Prince Edward Island, Canada
6.00am normal start for me to do the blog where I can concentrate in peace and quiet with no distractions except for the people in the adjoining cottage who also get up early with their dog. That is the only problem with this little cottage the Owners allow dogs and when you have allergies like us the dog smell from the carpet in the corner right next to Richards side of the bed is very strong. We both have to put drops in our eyes everyday lucky we only sleep in the room not spend all day there and even with the window open you can't get rid of the smell.

Finished the blog and checking emails when Richard surfaced from the bedroom after 7.00am good boy made a ground coffee this morning in the coffee machine. We seem to have showers the same time as the people next to us. Richard put the TV on while he checked his emails etc on his ipad and we had breakfast and our bag is packed with our lunch.

Today we are touring part of the east coast of the island stopped at the Owners house at the front to make the places to see (I didn't have a pen the last time I saw him and my memory is one ear out the other). We start out on Route 6 same as yesterday but Jill took us in a round about way to Route 2E with the same views of travelling passed maple, spruce forest, homes,
farmland, cattle, dairy cows, lakes and little towns. Stopped at Morell a pretty little town by the river for a double check on Jill. When we crossed over the river you know the usual story roadworks ahead stopped at a temporary red light before proceeding over a one-way temporary bridge next to the new bridge being built.

Following the road around St. Peters Bay (a picture perfect view from the hill) to the seaside town of St. Peters. Cottages on the shoreline by the bridge, motels and B&B's along the road a real tourist town. Continued along the road right out to the entry point of the bay where PEI National Park Greenwick is. The first trail is through the forest to a picnic area some natural wetlands for wildlife to near the mouth of the bay lots of mussel farms in the bay the waters around PEI are very rich just right for mussels plus the farmers use it for fertiliser. We saw trays of seaweed being dried out at the harbour in Charlottetown. On the other side of the bay you can see a harbour with a Lighthouse on the point a small town with homes on the shoreline. Next Richard drove down the other gravel road to the lookout on the seaside. Climbed the tower to have a look never took any photos here as it is virtually the same views as yesterday at Brackley Point.

Continued up the East Coastal Drive driving by forests, fields and farms on Route 336 the road is very patchy (good vibrations!!) where some holiday homes are on the seaside at Cable Head East then back to a resurfaced road till we turn left to Route 16E. You never get tired of looking at the changing colours of the forests with homes and farmland appearing along the way. All the properties have massive lawn areas around the homes no wonder they have lawn mowing machines they drive on. It is the weekend and everyone is doing their lawns today.

Listening to soothing French music travelling up the coast all by ourselves with beautiful weather, sun shining is so relaxing only the cold wind when we get out of the car spoils it. We noticed each town we see while driving has a beautiful wooden White Church with a steeple lots of United churches also Catholic.

Around the Clear Springs area are a lot of Wineries but can't see any vineyards. There is even a town Called New Zealand near by. Quite a few old deserted wooden houses and barns Richard was too chicken to stop and have a look. We can now see the ocean at Fairfield with wind turbines in the distance must be getting close to North Lake Harbour the Owner at Blue Crest Cottages send you can see whales plus tuna boats are there.    Well I must say it is just another fishing harbour and no whale watching. Took a video and some photos as the entrance is small and different. Nearly lunch time so will have lunch at East Point the tip of the Island where the two currents meet and of course another wooden Lighthouse. Our peacefully lunch was disturbed by a barking poodle in the car next to us. The owners had gone in the little Cafe for lunch leaving the dog in the car. There were no cars when we first pulled up now there are five all around us. A peaceful view was destroyed and it was too cold to eat outside. Walked around and took some photos and video.

Now we are going back down the other side of the Island coast to Basin Head and the singing sand. This time we actually saw grapevines in the South Lakes area beautiful views of the lake right next to the sea. It is a pity you can't drive down to the shoreline to walk along the beaches reason being all the properties and homes start at the roadside and finish on the shoreline all around the island.

Basin head is a beautiful holiday spot on a river there is a section where you can swim then a wooden channel to the sea with a fast flowing current and rip at the entry to the ocean. We walked along the near white sand but it didn't really sing under our shoes just a small noise. Nice views looking out to the sea on one side there is white sand and dunes with the other side you have the red cliffs with forest on top and white sand at the shoreline.

Out of all the places the cottage owners told us to see this is the only spot that is beautiful and
worth seeing. His meaning of beautiful is very different to ours. That is enough sightseeing for today told Jill to take us home which she did in another round of bout way. Instead of taking Route 6 we went to the outskirts of Charlottetown through all the traffic to Route 2 then Route 223 I know the GPS goes by the shortest route but why didn't we go back the same peaceful way instead of through traffic.

Anyway we got back on Route 6 and made it back to the cottage for afternoon tea and rest. While Richard was on his ipad I went and did the washing before we leave tomorrow put dinner on quick one tonight seeing the rice and chicken has already been cooked. After dinner caught up with emails and daily receipts, downloaded todays photos watched some TV and at 10.00pm we went to bed in a comfortable bed for a good nights sleep. Hope the next cottage in Hopewell Cove has a comfortable bed for the next three nights glad we can stay an extra night there.
