Today we leave for Hopewell Cape on the Bay of Fundy and it looks like next door is leaving too or they are early risers like me as this is the second morning I have heard them moving around in their cottage. Richard is also awake but he went back to bed for an hour or so while I did the blog in peace and quite can't concentrate with the TV going at night. After downloading and looking at the days photos at night plus checking emails or anything else I have had enough of computers.
Just as I finished downloading yesterdays blog into Travelpod Phyllis Skyped and we had a catch-up chat and she told me of Beryl and Ian's 50th Wedding Anniversary. Frank put on a surprise dinner at a Chinese restaurant near Phyllis's all the family were there including the grandchildren so it was a big surprise for Beryl. No one can keep a secret from Beryl but Frank kept this one. Richard was up now made coffee for us and joined the conversation and it is great not to have any bills to pay.
Once we showered had breakfast I made our lunch for the day Richard washed the bugs off the front of the car. We packed the car did the normal double check of the cottage told the Owner we enjoyed our stay at their cottage plus mentioned there was a strong dog smell in the bedroom carpet we were off.
Travelled back on the same roads as what we came in on with the last views of a beautiful Island. It's is Sunday morning the road is peaceful and quite everyone must be in church as the church's we pass have lots of cars outside. The only people working are the potato farmers they are harvesting their crops and taking they to the big collection depots where the potatoes are
sorted and graded then go to the McCain’s Factory we saw when we first came in plus there are other factories on the Island. Passed lots of homes decorated for Halloween which is a big thing in Canada and America. At the front of their homes and in the gardens you see big orange pumpkins, bales of hay, straw dolls like scarecrows and other scary decorations. Some of the homes are really beautifully decorated.
The petrol is getting quite low getting close to E for excellence and we want to risk trying to drive to Three Rivers over the Confederation Bridge to get the cheaper petrol at $123.9 so we pulled into the Shell Station before the bridge to be safe and fill up $128.4 Richard also cleaned the windscreen. We made a pit stop there and bought some Kit Kats for a snack.
Paid $44.50 at the Toll Bridge to leave the Island and it was goodbye to Prince Edward Island quite ride over the 19km bridge and it is hello to Bay of Fundy starting out on Hwy 16 from the bridge. We have noticed even on the island a lot of dead raccoons on the road and just after the round about near Port Elgin we saw a couple of dead skunks. The road from the bridge is in dire
need of resurfacing lots of patching. The scenery is back to normal forests of autumn maple, spruce, homes, farmland, cattle that is all you see for miles and miles including the beautiful lakes and rivers. Pulled over the side of the road Richard wanted to have a look at my right eye because I couldn't what I thought was an eyelash from my eye but it seemed I had a sty so Dr. Thorn got his eye ointment out and started giving me three hourly doses of this antibiotic ointment.
Came to the T Junction of Hwy 16 left is Nova Scotia and we turned to the right to New Brunswick where we turn off before Moncton to go down the coast to Hopewell Cape. The dual Hwy 2W passes through massive wetlands then forests of spruce and autumn maples, high voltage power lines in line with the highway and we have noticed there are even rest stops in this section of the highway to Moncton. For a Sunday there is a bit of traffic on the highway passed through Memremcook and under a few bridges which take you to other towns. The speed limit is 110km but Richard does an extra 50 or so kms and drives on cruise control when all of a sudden
the Pontiac excelorated up to over 120km gave us both a fright.
Getting close to Moncton took Exit 467A a very tight turn to Hwy11S just before Moncton and travelled around the outer limits of the city when we missed the turn at the round about. Jill took us on a scenic drive of Moncton city till we turned onto Hwy 114 to Hopewell Cape.
This is a lovely road with autumn trees in front of the homes and views of the river and little towns as we travel to Hopewell Cape. Reached our destination at Wendy Johnston Pottery and Artisan's Suites at round 12 noon but our suite wouldn't be ready till 4.00pm. Wendy gave us a map of the area with sights we could see till the suite was ready and give us a view of the area. I settled our account and we got a discount as we didn't want breakfast including so $60.00 in our pocket is good.
Followed the map on Hwy 114 to Crooked Creek Lookout where we had lunch the lookout is a view of the autumn colours of the trees across the valley and the river below. A scene we have viewed many times before in our travels across Canada. A busy little spot here we had entertainment while we ate lunch.
Next we drove to Harvey to Shipwreck Park to see the remains of a old harbour and home owned by a Mr Turner there was a shell of an old sailing ship took photos and video. The scenery we are driving through on Hwy 915 round Shepody Bay and Chignecto Bay is mainly salt wetlands and forest.
The road to Cape Enrage we had to be careful on lots of blind turns to the beautiful rocky beach with high cliffs some was fishing there Richard checked their rod and said it was very basic. Sat on the beach rocks and enjoyed the view before ascending the hair-pin turns up the cliff to the top of Cape Enrage to the Lighthouse (closed of course) and magnificent view of where we had just been sitting on the beach.
Drove back onto Hwy 915 gravel now stopped at Ducks Unlimited Marshes where different types of ducks bred we had missed seeing any as they migrate in late September early October. Kept driving on the gravel road till Hwy 114 the main coastal road and stopped at Alma a small fishing town.
Lobster season is finished so nearly everything is closed so no cooked lobster to take back for dinner. Walked around the little town Richard had a Pepsi and I took a Photo of a boat called “Amanda 1” to stir up Richards daughter Mandy. Tide is out at the moment and all fishing boats are high and dry.
The Fundy National Park is just over the bridge at Alma so we took a drive through had a look at the bay from a lookout and seeing it was after 4.00pm decided it was time to go back to Artisan's Suites as our suite should be ready by now. Took the quick route back on Hwy 114 here there is forest, salt wetlands some farms with cattle, horses and dairy cows.
Wendy was in her Pottery Work Shop/Shop when I picked up the key to our Coastal Suite she has two the other is the Artisan Suite. These are one bedroom Studio's all open with kitchen, dining, lounge and king size bed as one room and the bathroom off where the bed is. Lovely country style studio and in the bathroom is a Spa or as they call it a Jacuzzi (guess what we
will be having tonight!!)
Once we were all settled in Richard was having problems with logging onto the internet (put know password in) Wendy helped him out and I saw Wendy regarding the tide levels to go to Hopewell Rocks to walk on the ocean floor and get a microwave dish to cook rice. There are never any dishes for cooking in the microwave. While I was speaking to her she gave me names of some places to stay at in Nova Scotia I told her of our journey across Canada from Vancouver to Halifax. Richard and I will decide tomorrow where we are going to go in Nova Scotia.
Set the smoke alarm off when I was grilling the pork forgot to put the exhaust fan on. After our lovely dinner we had a lovely bubble bath in the Jacuzzi so relaxing. Richard watched some DVD's and did his thing on his ipad and I checked off receipts on our Cash Passport MasterCard account, downloaded today’s photos which we both looked at before I included some on Travelpod did a little bit of the blog before watching TV with Richard and then retiring to our comfy king size bed.
