A day of doing nothing

Bras d'Or, Nova Scotia, Canada
It is so lovely to wake up to a view of Big Bras d'Or River with Acadian mountains in the background very peacefully and relaxing a good start for the day. Lazy again today got up at 7.00am made myself a cup of coffee didn't wake sleepy head till him sleep till 8.00am. Downloaded yesterday's blog into Travelpod checked the emails, entered all our receipts on expense spreadsheets. Tried editing our advert on Craigslist but am having problems so may need to delete it and do a new one. Will need to edit the Kijiji advert as well too including the Dartmouth address and change the price.

Having a relaxing day today really doing nothing and probably drinking too much coffee. Decided to go to Baddeck where I tried getting a cottage to look at the sights, do our washing and some food shopping as we are leaving Cape Breton Island tomorrow and supplies are low. Made our lunch and flask of coffee got everything ready and we were off.

Same old route or the only road that goes to Baddeck Hwy 105 as we drove over Kelly's Mountain there were a lot of tourists at the St Ann's lookout a bit of a traffic jam. Police out in force on the section of highway near Baddeck (the same as yesterday) so Richard eased of the accelerator. Parked at the Information Centre in the main street and got brochures on what to see and do which wasn't much. Mary at the Centre was very helpful explained the meaning of Thanks Giving (I think it dates back from the pagan days of England where the village people thanked the gods for a good harvest) which is what they do in Canada and America.

The weather is very cool put our jumpers on and walked done the main street (the only street) of Baddeck nice old buildings nothing much on offer. There is the Alexander Graham Bell Historical Site but we have seen telephones, airplanes, record players etc before and we are not interested in golf, seen enough harbours to sink a battleship. God we are hard to please couldn't find the Laundromat first time, walked along the Boardwalk around the St Patricks Channel like the tourists from the coach parked at the Information Centre. So we weren't the only bored ones in town. Being Sunday the Co-op Store was closed so we couldn't get our milk, bread or meat for tonight only the little Convenience Shop was open. Thankfully the milk and bread weren't dear but no meat so it is tinned sardines with rice and veggies for dinner.

Found the Laundromat the most expensive one we have been to in Canada 75 cents for a half inch of laundry washing liquid grand total of $5.25. The first washing machine ate 50 cents had to get the money back from the Owner seems some of the machines are “out of order”. Richard laughed as I had one of my little meltdowns again seems my weekend for meltdowns. Decided to have morning tea while we waited for the washing but then it was so close to lunch we had that as well. The dryer also ate the money the clothes took ages to dry we went to have a cake and coffee at the cafe round the corner but the two cafes we went to was “cash only”. We use our Cash Passport MasterCard only have money for little items like Tim Horton's so they missed out on us buying from them. Folded the clothes and seeing there was nothing else to see or do we drove all the way back to the cottage should have just gone to North Sydney 10kms away instead of 37kms to Baddeck.

Just over the Sea Island Bridge to Boularderie Island we pulled into the Cedar House Bakery and bought a Blueberry Cake for afternoon tea and headed back to the cottage. Richard washed the car while I put everything away and we had afternoon tea then we discussed where we were going to stay on Nova Scotia and divided the days for each town. The biggest excitement we had today was watching a freighter ship go by the cottage. While Richard had a little nap I started looking for accommodations. Booked one night at Super 8 Truro through Booking.com reviews on Trip Advisor passed it for a one night stay so here goes. Most reviews for Super 8 Hotels aren't that much chop. Not having much luck with Wolfville cottages are a bit expensive and accommodation is hard to get at a reasonable price because you have to add 15% tax on the price you see online. It's not like home where the price you see is the price you get here you can have up to three different taxes and it makes the price a bit expensive. Waiting for an email back from Roselawn Lodging hopefully there is one tomorrow morning when we get up.

Tonight the hot water for the shower is clear not the brown segment water like last night we will be glad to get back to normal water not bore water. The taste or iron and other minerals when you wash your face or clean your teeth is not nice plus we have to have bottle water of use the filter jug in the fridge if we want drinking water, make coffee or cook. Had our enjoyable dinner of sardines!! Were very naughty and had more blueberry cake for a snack after dinner while watching TV. Richard is killing himself watching Just for Laughs on TV while on his ipad there is not much on TV lot of repeat shows will be glad to get back home and watch some decent TV. I did today’s blog and have everything up to date. Relaxed on the bed watching TV before going to sleep.
