Slept in till 7.00am looked outside it is very misty looks like a fog has set in. Richard made two cups of motel filtered coffee I don't touch those machines after I nearly destroyed one in Alaska put milk in instead of water. Showered and packed then went and had the included Continental Breakfast (cereals, yoghurt, fruit, boiled egg, toast and coffee. Nice and full now ready for the road it's a short drive of about 150kms to Wolfville. Jill is programmed and ready to direct us back on Hwy 102 dual road which bypassed Truro we were going to shop here but Richard wanted to get on the road it's just after 9.00am and there is a fog.
The scenery we are driving by is the normal Canadian forest, farmland, cattle and small towns. Had to slow down to 80kms due to roadworks at bridge over the Shubenacadie River just before Exit 10. Looks like the tide is out you can see the red riverbed this river does go out to the Bay of Fundy. The fog has now lifted, still overcast and very hazy in the distance. There are a lot of semi's and trucks on the highway quite busy with traffic coming from the other directions. Looks like we will be travelling in a big circle round Nova Scotia just passed Exit 6 to Halifax International Airport, Halifax and Dartmouth which is 36kms away. Can see the Airport, hotels and buildings plus planes are flighting overhead.
We are now driving round the Shubenacadie Grand Lake near Exit 5 the reflections in the water are very beautiful with the boats and cabins dotted along the shoreline. Took Exit 4B under the first bridge to Hwy 10W had to concentrate as it is a maze of turn offs, bridges and highways but we got there this time. Only 67kms to Wolfville paased bt lots of towns, outer suburbs with big Shopping Centres. Now back to the peaceful Acadian forest scenery with lakes and high voltage power lines next to the highway. Steady stream of traffic on the highway one section of forest between Exit 3 and 4 is very bare and woody as the sugar maples have lost their leaves ready for winter.
Coming back to farmland, lakes, marshland and small towns then the Industrail area of Winsor which is on the Avon River. Lot of marshland for wildlife and farms around the river the pastures are lovely green and very fertile. Well it is still overcast and cool outside just wind down the window and you know it os cool. We are now coming to the Bay of Fundy and the Annapolis Valley home known for its orchards, vineyards and tides. Wolfville is coming up turn at Exit 10 onto Hwy 1 down a small highway with maples on both side very pretty with old homes, B&B, cottages on each side and then the town of Wolfville with its old wooden front painted shops.
Did a few twists and turns and ended up in front of the old delapitated house which couldn't be our cottage I checked the address and Richard had keyed in 24 Gaspereau Drive instead of Gaspereau River Branch Road. We seemed to now go down little back streets out in farmland through sea marshland over a bridge to this tiny little street to our cottage. Pulled in the drive it's 12 noon no one there went in the cottage not ready for us yet looked okay has two bedrooms and a basement games room.
Drove back to Wolfville which is only five minutes away found a Tin Horton's walked down the main street (only street) of the town and out to the sea marshland to Minas Basin which is part of the Bay of Fundy (tides out) then we went back to Tim Horton's for coffee and cake before going to SaveEasy to get some meat and veggies.
Richard wasn't well so he had a little sleep while I was again trying to find accommodation in Liverpool. Left two emails the area there is quite expensive so will wait for reply something always comes up. BBQ would start so had to get Brian again and it was just a loose connection so we were right again. Brian and Richard got on like a house on fire both enjoy fishing and hunting. The river and marsh just over the road has fish so we could be going for a walk over there tomorrow to check the dikes. Apparently there are a lot of dikes around here to stop flooding these were build by the first Acadian settlers.
Sarah and Brian are a lovely couple and have hepled us with all the little mishaps, Sarah gave me a cassarole dish to cook rice in the microwave and let me go inside their cottage to connect to the internet to check emails before Brian came home.
At least dinner wasn't a disaster the BBQ pork was lovely caught up with todays blog Richard has his ipad and we are watching the funny home videos on TV. Already for bed.
