Really lazy this morning coffee in bed it's well after 7.00am checked emails and the two I was waiting for have come through for cottages in Summerville near Liverpool. One was a good price not sure on WIFI to cottage and the other need to know the total cost including tax. Will check on my quires once we are settled at Digby.
This little cottage gets so hot I have to go outside to cool off. Looked out the lounge bay window it is overcast but no rain or fog so we have a good day to drive to Digby. All packed and ready for the road. Richard has keyed in Digby address Jill is being nice today and accepting all addresses for Digby. Said our goodbyes to Sarah thanked her for a lovely stay and sorry for the little hick cups at first. Last look at the cottage, little brook behind the cottage, river at other side going through the marshland and the many farms and crops all around the cottage. Nice to be in a peaceful rural area for a change and hopefully this is the end of bumpy roads. The main roads to Hwy 101 have been resurfaced we are driving on the higher section looking for the last time at the panoramic views of the surrounding areas of Wolfville to the Minas Basin.
Fog is hanging over parts of the surrounding area now we are Hwy 101W with views of the rich autumn colours of the Acadian forest. Passed Richards favorite big town of Kentville bit he didn't want to go back to take a photo of the Pumpkin People I missed yesterday. Going through the Annapolis Valley Industrial area, roadworks on bridge near Exit 14. Traffic stop light came up quickly the guy behind was travelling too fast Richard saw him and gave him plenty of braking and we had the room.
Always listen to classical music on long drives there is fine mist of rain and fog now as we pass by apple orchards, farmlands and forest. There is a fair bit of traffic on the single carriage highway. You never tire of the views little two story farm houses with barns some have silos, with autumn maples as wind barriers cattle grazing near by.
Passing Berwick the apple growing area then a little later in the distance is Greenwood the largest air force base in Canada. Lots of little towns or villages on either which we will go on at Exit 20 to Bridgetown. The view of Acadian forest changed to mainly smaller sugar maples very woody with no autumn colours getting closer to turning to Bridgetown and the fog has once again set in very thick.
Bridgetown is a pretty little town with pretty quaint homes on Hwy 1 lined with beautiful coloured sugar maple trees you feel like you are in a movie when you pass through the little towns or villages it's like being in “Murder She Wrote”. Can see the Annapolis River on the left of us and back to the farmland scenery with the fog still hugging the tops of the hills in the distant. Blue sky now showing and the sun is out beautiful views all round.
Spoke too soon the fog is back as we drive through Granville Ferry cannot see a thing as we cross over the Annapolis River twice the fog is as thick as pea soup driving near the Annapolis River.
From what we can see all the little towns have cabins, cottages, B&B's and motels on the river front. At Deep Brook the fog lifted and the road sort of came to an end instead of doing a u turn Richard went miles out of our way back to the turn to Hwy 101W to Digby. Not far now over two big bridges and big river to Exit 26 onto Hwy 303 to Digby saw Tim Horton’s on the left pulled in for coffee and cake then Walmart and Superstore for some shopping. Over the other side of the highway we saw Dollarama bought our “For Sale” signs to sell the Pontiac half the price of what Walmart was.
Continued on Hwy 303 which becomes Montague Row where Harmony B&B Suites is located. Parked over the other side of the road by the Annapolis Bay to have lunch walked over to Harmony B&B signed in Richard drove the car around to the back and parked near our Suite No. 5 upstairs. Nice modern motel like suite with a little fridge and microwave can use the BBQ at the back of the main B&B building at front. We settled in and have a view of the bay from our window.
Wayne (Owner) gave us directions for Information Centre plus Shoreline Restaurant for a scallop and seafood dinner tonight and where to get a service for the Pontiac. First stop was the car Canadian Tire charges over $50.00 and can do tomorrow. Got lost looking for the Info Centre but found a family run garage who will do a better job than Canadian Tires so booked in there for 3.00pm tomorrow and they gave us directions to the Info Centre plus what Brier Island is like.
The ladies at the Info Centre were absolutely great booked all the remaining cottages for us (Liverpool, Lunenburg and Peggy's Cove) so I now don't have to worry were we are going to sleep all done for me. Also got all the relevant information for Digby and going to Brier Island. Getting late now 5.00pm and we are tired drove back to B&B found out where the Shoreline was took an umbrella with us and walked down the waterfront to there. Had a lovely meal Seafood Chowder first then shared a Seafood Platter what a big meal and the scallops were beautiful
everything was sauteed not deep fried with jacket potato and veggies. Including tip cost $65.00 but it was worth it so full afterwards.
Walk back along the waterfront tide is still out let the other Owner Heather know the restaurant was great had our shower and ready to relax. Richard went on his ipad and I checked emails have a person interested in the Pontiac so hopefully he or she wants to look at it when we get to Dartmouth on 27th Oct. Downloaded today's photos and did the blog. Relaxed in front of TV on the big comfy King size bed before falling asleep.
