Both of us slept well last night no clock watching for me maybe once Richards man flu is getting a little bit better I have bruised the ball of my right heel. Old age is creeping on for us I think our bodies are getting tired and need a good rest in Halifax before we come home or get on the plane.

The sun is out and looks like we will have a good day driving round Long Island have to catch two ferries one to Long Island then to Brier Island. Once again we slept in it is so dark in the unit you can tell the time unless you look at the clock. I am now good at making the filtered coffee had two cups in bed watching the news and weather saw there were bush fires in the Blue Mountains NSW hope no lives were lost.

Well we are ready for the road looking out the bay window over the bay to see blue skies no mist in the distance so it means we will be able to see the sights on Brier Island. All showered had breakfast and ready for the road it's a glorious day as we drive through Digby down Prince William Street where the Pontiac was serviced on Hwy 217 which is the only road to the islands. The view all the way through Digby Neck is mainly spruce trees lot the autumn leaves from the sugar maples have falling off and there is bare trees mixed in the spruce.
 
  Amazing to the left are donkeys, either llamas or alpacas grazing in the fields near the road normal views of homes, some farmland, horses grazing even early morning walkers. Very little traffic this Saturday morning sort of had the road to ourselves and the view is a bit boring no beautiful autumn colours even looking in the distance only spruce and bare sugar maple. We are now driving by St Mary's Bay on the left and we both make a comment of seeing quite a few deserted homes left to deteriorate. Looking at the map we drive through Lake Midway Provincial Park I video and take a photo of Lake Midway as we drive by seen a lot of lakes so no need to stop.

A lot of the views we see from the car and don't need to get out the road skirts around Sandy Cove East a pretty little bay with a fishing harbour tide is starting to go out. Stopped for a quick video passed homes along the way I think this is a fishing island lots of lobster pots near homes. Turned off to Little River a little fishing village stopped at the harbour the lobster season is over all the lobster pots are stacked high at the harbour.  

  Crossed the highway over to of all things a gravel road Richard wasn't impressed going up a steep hill on a bumpy pot hole gravel road even though it was only for a quarter of a mile to an open parking area. Met the Owner of the surround land who was going to feed the deer's with a bucket of carrots walked with us up a short path where we saw a tree filled with hearts and you can leave a message. This was started by his wife and she wrote a lovely poem which is on the tree but there are no little hearts for us to leave a message. Followed the trail to the look-off to look at the view of the village of Little river and the river that flows to St Mary's Bay. Richard tried selling the Pontiac to him, he saw the for sale sign on the back window.

  Many of the little villages we passed have cemeteries some also have churches. Just coming to Petite Passage where we catch the first ferry from Digby neck to Long Island and as we drove down the ferry start left. While we waited we had our morning tea till the ferry came across at 11.00am the current is very fast and strong in the middle of the passage between the islands. It's calm to the left where St Mary's Bay is and on the other side of the passage is Bay of Fundy with is quite rough. It may be sunny but the wind cuts right through you when you are outside of the car. Watched the fishing boat as we waited and there is not a soul in sight till a car with two ladies in pulls up behind us. The ferry crossed back and the cars drove off then the ferry pulled away Richard tooted think we had missed the ferry. But apparently (lady is car behind) this now happens since there was an accident when a car tried to drive on a moving ferry. Also the lady said to drive straight across Long Island a 20 minute drive to the other ferry to Brier Island as it leaves every 25 minutes and once we land on Long Island she said to see the Balancing Rock on the way back as we have a n hour wait for the ferry.

  Finally it is 11.30am Richard is good at driving onto ferries paid our $5.50 we are first on and first off for a quick 5 minute ride across Petite Passage to Long Island. This is a pretty little fishing village beautiful old homes and Richard did a quick drive pass spruce forests, homes in between, marshland with bogs and you can still see a bit of autumn colours in the distance. Mainly spruce trees on the 20 minute drive to Freeport just in time to drive on the ferry to Brier Island another $5.50.

Once off the ferry we turned left to drive round the Grand Passage through the little village of Westport to big Cove where we view Digby Neck, Long Island. Just on the point here is Peter's Island with a little lighthouse on the currents on both sides is very fast and strong we watch a fishing boat come in on the other side plus see three birds float by very quickly out to St Mary's Bay. Had our lunch here before driving back and stopping to look at the pumpkin people in the front yards of homes. Petrol low so top up $131.9 a bit expensive but we need petrol asked the lady there about the roads and she said they are good. Well we drove to the lighthouse near Tide Pond and the gravel road was just one pot hole after another. Spotted two guys sighting their guns in target shooting so Richard got on like a house on fire with them. The coastline is very rugged and rocky here lots of marshland and spruce trees tried to take a photo of a Turkey Vulture in flight (blurred) missed the male pheasant.

Drove back through Westport couldn't see any homes for sale as Linda and Bob want to buy a house here a bit remote and there are no Tim Horton's here better if they live in Digby there are two there that we have been too. Drove up another gravel road to Northern Point to another lighthouse can see the lighthouse on Peter's Island very rocky and rugged here plus cold and windy. Richard said I have turned into Dawn Japanese Thorn again but as I said to him half the photos get deleted.

  Walked around the coastline through the marsh over to Seal Cove can see seals in the distance but it is a bit far to walk in the cold. Back to Westport to catch the ferry across Grand Passage to Long Island and to see the Balancing Rock.

   Finally made it to the closed car park to Balancing Rock and what we didn't know was you had a 1km walk to the coastline. The trail is through the bog (rained all day yesterday) so one got wet soggy runners then you go down 235 steps a very steep descend to a viewing platform. Well it was worth it the Balancing Rock is a spectacular columnar basalt sea stack that rests precariously on it's end.

Time is marching on and we just make it in time for the 4.00pm ferry back to Digby Neck took another video of Sandy Cove East with the tide fully out and boats are high and dry, the marshlands and The Seawall which is a a beautiful bay where you can go to the beach and bird watch. The cliffs there are red just like on Prince Edward Island.

Finally made it back to the unit had afternoon tea very hungry ate the lovely muffins and had an early dinner. Washed our runners and soaks dried them in front of the air-con. Did the blog, downloaded today's photos, no emails time for bed.
