Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, Canada
The cold temperature woke us up at 5.30am this morning just be down near zero quickly turned all the temperature controls up to 30 to heat the cottage. The semi's and the German chap in the next cottage woke me at 7.00am but I drifted back to sleep till 7.30am. Nice to have not a worry except not having someone to buy the Pontiac all accommodation locked in only problem is PayPal and the $300.00 refund. Tried getting PayPal last night but couldn't get an International line out will try when we get to Topmast Motel and do a reverse call there.

Looked out over the water and the mist or steam was rising from the water and you couldn't see in the distance with the mist or fog. A pristine sight to see so peaceful and beautiful watched a fisherman in his boat coming across the water and circling in the middle of the bay in front of us.

Had to turn all the heating off the cottage retains the heat and it feels like a furnace and to go out and enjoy the view to cool down. We both checked our computers for emails and updates plus did downloads before we left. Richard is being such a little Hitler making sure I do my foot exercises morning and night. My heel is slowly getting better as long as I rest and don't do a lot of walking which is a bit difficult at the moment if we want to see or walk ti sights. Such experts now all packed and ready for our short drive of 65kms or so depending which way we go (highway or scenic road) to Lunenburg. The weather for the next few days is sunny which is good for us to sight see in Lunenburg.

Thanked Heather for a lovely relaxing stay time to go 10.00am it is a glorious day the suns out few clouds in the sky weather not cold and we are still in our summer tops. On Hwy103 with the occasional car passing hope the view picks up after Liverpool just a lot of bare sugar maples near the end of their autumn leaves. Aren't that interesting to look at just saw a boring looking Best Western Hotel after the turn off Hwy8 to Liverpool where we came in from Digby. Speed limit is 100kms on this single highway the traffic is picking up from Liverpool and the Canadian drivers are still impatient, tailgating you till they can overtake.

View is still the same must be coming to the end of Autumn when all the sugar maples and birch leaves fall off but there are still lots of bright yellow and orange leaves. Took Exit 17 to the Scenic Drive (Lighthouse route) round the coast to Lunenburg. Can see glimpses of Medway Harbour bay and small islands through the Acadian forest. Looking at picturesque views with little villages, homes some with Halloween decorations.    Pulled over at Voglers Cove to soak up the beautiful views of the village round the inlets and there is a tiny house on a island in the bay just in front of us. On the sides of the shore are salt marshes with spruce trees right up to the waters edge. Pity one couldn't wake up to this everyday coming up to Cheery Hill with the magnificent views of the rocky coastline of the Atlantic Ocean also called the South Shore of this section of Nova Scotia.

We didn't know till a few weeks ago when we were in Hopewell Cape that this part of Canada (Nova Scotia, Cape Breton Island, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland) is called the Maritimes, we were always wondering what people were talking about. Anyway we drove down a very nasty road to Cherry Hill Harbour in a small protective inlet to have a look and there was a truck there replacing poles on the wharf.

More beautiful views of the South Shore Atlantic Ocean as we drove round the coast, salt marsh to the shoreline at Board Cove another quaint village now only views of the Acadian forest a few homes till Petite Riviere. Again another beautiful village by the sea and lake with a long boardwalk over the salt marsh to see the different birds and wildlife. Parked just up the highway at Rissers Beach a small stretch of white sandy beach to see the coastline and island across the water. The cameras have been in overdrive and Richard is calling me Dawn Japanese Thorn again continued down the highway to the man-made causeway at Crescent Beach to the LaHave Islands where you can see the salt marshes, dunes, spruce to the shoreline and homes. Enjoyed our morning tea here looking at the views the clouds are rolling over and getting overcast but they look a bit high for rain.

Back on the road passing lots of little inlets, small boat harbours and villages till we get to LaHave in Dublin Bay at the mouth of LaHave River. Stopped at the Fort Point Museum Historical site where a lighthouse is and once was a fort established back in 1632. Enjoying the views of LaHave River the beautiful homes, villages on both side of the road and shoreline. With every bend in the road there is a picture perfect photo an artists ideal painting or a photographers dream landscape photo.

In Bridgewater we stopped at Shipyards Landing for lunch on the LaHave River with a view of fishing boats and harbour plus we can see the road across the river we will be travelling on. Drove through the lovely town of Bridgewater crossed the bridge to the other side of the LaHave River to continue our scenic drive. Sorry to say the views driving along this riverfront is a hell of a lot better than the Swan River with beautiful views of the winding road right beside the river with beautiful wooden decorated homes on the other side between maple and spruce trees. The water is so close you can nearly touch it, roads in Australia or WA aren't that close to the water nor are homes built on the shoreline or over the water.

We've been naughty and not following Jill's directions because we have been enjoying the views on both sides of LaHave River which is a big wide river with lots of inlets and islands. Got lost and ended up at a dead end road with a quarter of a tank of petrol left so we thought we had better do as Jill says and we are now back on the right road to Lunenburg.

Before we knew if Jill said we had 800 metres to go and just on top of the hill is Topmast Motel with a glorious view of Lunenburg and the harbour what a sight. Mary wasn't there got our key and quickly moved in the unit very nice neutral colours lounge, dining full kitchen in one room with worse luck two double beds (too small for two people) and bathroom. Sliding door from the lounge goes to the balcony with the panoramic view of Lunenburg.

Time to relax it's 3.00pm afternoon tea time with a lovely slice of pineapple looking at the view of Lunenburg. Logged on the WIFI good strong connection downloaded today's photos and did the blog Richard had a rest till dinner. The office is still not open and it is 6.00pm only one BBQ out for everyone to use and it looks like rain so quickly cooked chicken legs to have with rice and veggies with the juicy pineapple.

Time for showers and relax in front of TV and thankfully no news channels or repeats to watch as there is a satellite dish here and we can watch TV. Little Hitler made sure I did my heel exercises while watching TV and rest my foot on a pillow and relax before going to bed.
