Sorry to say the double bed is too small for us to stretch out in comfort to sleep so we each have our own double beds for the next two nights. Curtains don't block out the outside lights so out comes the night shades for a good nights sleep. Turned on all the wall heaters at 5.30am to warm the unit before getting up later looked out the window down to Lunenburg it's even beautiful with all the lights on silhouetting in the water.
Finally stirred at 7.00am Richard put the filtered coffee on at 7.30am and we had coffee in bed as usual Richard checked his ipad and I the laptop no one loves us. Checked our Passport Cash account and the $300.00 refund is there so sent email to Catherine to let her know and she was very pleased everything is now settled.
Discussed our plan of attack for the day Mary is still not in for me to pay so we left for the day first stop is the Information Centre. Drove down the steep hill from the Motel round Lunenburg Harbour soaking up the views of the UNESCO old Lunenburg the original layout of a planned Colonial settlement established in 1753. Mi'Kmaq natives and Acadians were the earliest settlers and later formal colonization by “Foreign Protestants” from Germany, Switzerland and the Montebeliard region of France, expanded the existing British Colonial settlement in Nova Scotia.
The three main road are one way remember back in the old days there were only horse and cart no need for a wide street. All the original buildings are wooden brightly coloured either homes or small shops.
The lady from the Info Centre was very helpful and hopefully her sister or friend who is looking at buying a car might come and look at the Pontiac before we leave on Friday for Peggy's Cove. Think positive and the car will be sold that is what I tell Richard every time I turn the laptop on but I think he has negative thoughts has been too long with Fab. The Info Centre is on top of a hill with views of the Lunenburg Back Harbour (back of building where camping ground is) and from the front you have glimpses of Lunenburg Harbour across the bay to Kaulback Head and the golf course next to where our motel is.
Lucky for us the centre was open today will be closed for winter tomorrow like everything else in the town and nearly all the other towns we have been too. Only one RV in camping ground we walked over to the top edge to look at the view of Lunenburg Back Harbour a panoramic view of small boats anchored in the bay, small islands and homes on the shoreline and in the distance.
Plan of attack is to go to Blue Rocks 9 minute drive away then Stonehurst and finish at Lunenburg before getting petrol and getting more food. Jill was being nice and knew where Blue Rocks was, so onto Hwy 332 passing salt marshes round the bay of Lunenburg Harbour with views virtually the same as yesterday beautiful homes on both sides of the road, Acadian forest of the nearly finished autumn sugar maple and spruce trees. The roads here are in need of repair lots of patched pot holes as we drive by the waters edge very close to the rocks and water.
Magnificent views of all the inlets as we wind around the coastline to Blue Rocks a scenic little fishing village, very picturesque and quaint the “Peggy’s Cove of Lunenburg” stopped to look at a little boat shed in the middle of one inlet. At Blue Rocks there is a tiny protected fishing harbour
the coast is very rocky (blue) lots of submerged and partly showing rocks from the shoreline with many little forest island in the bay. What I always call picture perfect photos.
Drove right out to the point tiny winding pot hole road where there is another little house partly on an island jutting into the water and a circular boardwalk with entry for boats and sheds on stilts on the other side. A lot of salt marshland on the shoreline had our morning tea here and soaked up the atmosphere in the crisp air.
Jill is brilliant with these little winding roads and found Stonehurst another scenic little fishing village very picturesque and quaint out in the wilderness lots of holiday homes, cottages, marshlands with lakes, many inlets with tiny fishing harbours all so picture perfect. Drove to the end of the winding bumpy road to apparently where Tom Selleck is doing a film or TV show “Jesse Stone”. No filming going on we walked over the footbridge to the holiday homes on the point what a magnificent view of rocky islands dotting through the waterways, small inlets with homes, jetties and boats. Sights you never want to leave we ended up having lunch enjoying the views before going back the same way to Lunenburg. This time we took Hwy332 round the Back Harbour to enjoy the views we saw from the camping ground on the above hillside.
Sorry to say Jill took us on a wild goose chase to a petrol station that does not exist I checked the map and found one at the Shopping Centre where we are to go. Tank filled probably for the last time $1.294 at Irving, crossed over to SaveEasy for more food then to our favorite Tim Horton's for afternoon tea watch some people check the for sale sign and Pontiac out.
Quick trip back to the motel to put the food in the fridge then back to park in Lunenburg to have a walk around and take some photos. First stop was the Bluenose II built at Lunenburg Shipyards in 1963 and being restored at the moment so can only see from a distance at another wharf but we can have a look after 4.00pm when the workers have finished working on the boat.
The original Bluenose built in 1921 is not in port. Lunenburg is a shipbuilding and fishing town. Walked along the wharf few lobster boats at the wharves, lots of seafood restaurants, boutiques, souvenir shops. The Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic was closed for the season the main attraction of the town with exhibits, displays, two boats, large wall aquariums, theatre and touch tank. We were looking forward to visiting the museum.
Next was the historic blacksmith shop now the Ironworks Distillery where they distill specialty liquor based products including apple vodka, rum, brandy and flavored liqueurs. Today they are distilling pears and the inside of the distillery still have remnants of the old blacksmith shop was very interesting looking at the distillery.
Richards foot was playing up so he went back to the car (tired of looking at old buildings) while I walked up the steep hill of Kemp Street to look at the fine Victorian to the Cape Code humble to houses showcasing the famous Lunenburg Bump. Will have to ask someone or Google what the Lunenburg Bump is so I can take a photo of the home as I didn't know which homes I was to look at on the three street corners.
Walked down the hill to the St Andrew's Presbyterian Church with a Cod on the steeple instead of a cross and the St John's Anglican Church both closed nice churches but once you have seen one white wooden church you have seen them all.
Met Richard back at the car and we went back to the motel all finished for the day. Time to relax catch up with everything, enjoy the view of the harbour and we had a lovely surprise a Mother Deer with her two young ones came out of the bush to graze in front of our balcony. Quickly got the cameras to take photos what a lovely sight watching them graze and we could get very close to them without spooking them.
The weather is still perfect nice and crisp a bit cool while we BBQ the chicken legs (it is amazing we don't have feathers) early dinner finished the pineapple with yoghurt. Richard had a bath we relaxed for the evening watched the 300th episode of CSI before going to bed. Well being tired is no excuse I went to download a deer photo on Travelpod and all the photos I took before dinner have gone to heaven so hopefully Mum and the kids come grazing tonight in front of our balcony. When I was about to log off Phyllis Skyped ahd a good chat then went to bed after 10.00pm and I am tired.
