Last day of sightseeing on an empty tank

Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada
The hotel bed is so good here you don't want to get up in the morning had our morning coffee fix in bed watching the news and weather on TV and the temperature today will be 7 another cold day. We do have to get up as it is 8.00am quick shower and change then breakfast downstairs the second last one there.

The ice on the Pontiac isn't as bad this morning when Richard changed the key lock petrol cap with the original one before we take the car to O'Regans this afternoon. Disappointment this morning I rang the Canada Revenue Agency to enquirer about claiming the GST/HST and apparently this program has been discontinued. What a pain it has been for me keeping all our receipts and having a running spreadsheet of all our expenses but then I know where our money went and how much we have.

Decided to have a look at a couple of beaches before we take the car over to O'Regans in Portland this afternoon. Made a flask of coffee and sandwiches Richard keyed in the beaches in the GPS and we were off for the day. Overcast and quite cool when we left the Best Western Hotel down Commodore Drive to Burnside Road then onto Hwy 111S where we had a maniac driver weaving in and out of the lanes nearly hit us as we were trying to exit on ramp 6B to Hwy 7E. Had to concentrate as it was a three way highway exit and we didn't want to get on the wrong highway. Passing through suburbs then out in the bare sugar maple and spruce forests, salt marshes and lakes with little islands to Cherry Brook.

Now we are back to the views we are used to just forest some parts have the spruce bug lots of dead trees in between the salt marshland and lakes. Driving through Porters Lake a very picturesque town on both sides of the highway with homes, cottages on the shoreline with boats moored in the river. There are large areas of salt marsh and lakes in between Exit 20 (West Cheezetcook) and Exit 21 (East Cheezetcook) then spruce forest with the spruce bug disease, bare sugar maples and every now and then lakes to break the bare scenery.

Turned at Musquodoboit Harbour to East Petpeswick where the scenery is extensive saltwater marsh, lakes with small islands to Martinique Beach. Nova Scotia's longest crescent of fine packed white sand stretching for 5kms, more like grey sand with some parts of the shoreline is rocky. The river and estuary is very beautiful with its small islands, homes on the waters edge and boat moorings. Walked along the beach probably our last in Canada stood looking at the view took some photos before heading back.

The petrol tank is on E for excellence and beeping to let us know there is only 50kms left just made it to West Petpeswick Irving Station $132.4 put $20.00 in to get us to O'Regans Used Car Yard. Thought we would see one more sight before taking the car to O'Regans programmed Jill to take us to Cole Harbour. Going back the same way to Hwy 107 took Exit 18 to Hwy 7 looking at our last views of the bare sugar maples and spruce forests ,the homes and lakes. Now on small single Hwy 207 to Lawrencetown have panoramic views of salt marshes, lakes with small islands and forest skirting round the salt marshes, lakes and homes along the highway to Cows Bay.

Gates locked to the beach so we had lunch in the car to cold outside then we walked along the boardwalk through the spruce trees and salt marsh to Cows Beach. The wind is bitterly cold, the bay and beach is very much the same as Martinique Beach with homes and rocks along the shoreline, forest but more salt marsh. Took our last photos then raced to the car to warm up and then drove back to suburbia at Cole Harbour and now to say goodbye to the Pontiac at O'Regans in Portland which isn't far away.

The Pontiac has been a great car never gave us any problems since we bought it from GM Motors Burnaby BC with a mileage of 110,568kms and the ended today at Portland where we sold the Pontiac at a steal with the final mileage of 117,045kms. Our journey across Canada was a total of 15,477kms of panoramic picturesque scenery memories never to be forgotten and always in our hearts. Canadian hospitality and friendliness will never be forgotten.

Mark and the Manager Anthony we waiting for us mark quickly took the Pontiac Report File with Registration papers and was quick to get to the licensing department to have the car put in their name and for Richard to to sign over the Pontiac. The Main Manager came over with the cash all smiles round said our goodbyes to the Pontiac and the Courtesy Shuttle took us back to Best Western Plus Hotel.

Time for afternoon tea with muffins and now relax for the afternoon. Richard relaxed with his ipad I did the dreaded chore of doing the last wash as I didn't feel like washing when we got home. Everything is packed just need to do the final pack tomorrow morning before we leave. Booked our ride for 11.00am tomorrow to ALT Hotel near Halifax International Airport.

Cooked the last of our food for dinner with yoghurt and banana then do the blog, download today's photos and relax the last night here. Richard is having his last soak in the bath before watching Just for Laughs on TV.
