It's amazing how a little pill can knock you out and give you a good nights sleep the planes woke us up landing and taking off this morning at 6.30am. Time for our last coffee fix in bed watching our favorite news channel will miss the team. We are more interested in the weather as there are gale force winds of up to 80kms expected for Halifax later today and we fly out at 3.40pm for Toronto. Plus Toronto is going to be windy with rain so looks like we are in for a bit of turbulence on the flight.
Did our final pack and I hope our suitcase is 18kgs or I will be off loading and taking on the plane as hand luggage. Richard said there is a scale at the Departure Lounge so I can weight before booking in. Looked at the emails and thankfully we have a reply from Kylie and our flights to Toronto with WestJet has been reconfirmed as well as the remaining leg from Toronto to LA. Thanked Kylie for saving us a big headache.
The weather outside is miserable cold and raining a lovely farewell from Canada but then every time we leave to go somewhere else it always rains so hopefully once we arrive in LA it will be lovely and sunny for us to check out Venice Beach.
Went down to the Lobby for a coffee and read the local Chronicle Herald but our peace and quiet was ruined by a screaming child we couldn't get away from no matter where we sat the mother seemed to follow us. Seeing check out wasn't till 12 noon we went back upstairs to watch our favorite news program and to continue checking the weather forecast. Richard is back on his ipad watching his fishing shows on utube.
I let Housekeeping know we were
leaving behind our esky, coolers, plastic containers and anything else we weren't taking home with us and the cleaning ladies could take what they wanted.
I am doing our last blog for Canada we talked the other day about out favorite places in Canada because Terry was interested to know and we both liked the same places. Vancouver is a lovely city, Vancouver Island would be great to go back to again so such to see, the Rockies were breathtaking, towns we stayed at around Lake Superior, Algonquin Provincial Park and surrounding areas mad magnificent views, Old Quebec was magical, Hopewell Cape where we walked on the ocean floor, red coastline of Prince Edward Island, Cabot Trail on Cape Breton Island so many hiking trails you can go on, in Nova Scotia well all the towns we stayed at on the Bay of Fundy side and Atlantic Ocean were beautiful. We will miss the mountains, the different spruce trees, the autumn colours of the sugar maples, all the lakes and rivers which is the whole of Canada a very beautiful country and so are the people who live there. We are sad to leave but we are also happy to be going home.
Well it is time to say goodbye to Canada and start our journey home, with the airport trolley loaded with all our baggage we paid our final account and headed for the WestJet counter to book in and wait for our flight to Toronto. Well I spoke too soon with thinking our flights to LA were sorted because our nightmare has just started. First off our one and only suitcase was too heavy so I had to off load books and brochures of Canada into our carry on bag which made that very heavy then when we went to book in there was still problems with our Toronto to LA flight saying there were two of us. The WestJet lass was very good she gave us excellent seats on the flight to Toronto but said we would need to speak to American Airlines to sort the connecting flight when we get to Toronto.
Seeing the first part of our journey to LA was booked we had plenty of time before boarding (three hours) so we thought we would Go to the American Airlines desk at the other end of the Airport to sort the problem of being double booked. This is when the nightmare started they couldn't do anything there but the lovely lass gave me the toll free number to sort the problem out, which I thought I did when I called. Well when we went back to WestJet their computer still said there was a double booking and they couldn't confirm our connecting flight to LA even with another call to American Airlines couldn't sort the problem with this little glitch. Both airlines said wait till we get to Toronto to sort the problem.
After all this we were getting tired and went to Tim Horton's for lunch naughty Richard had a lovely Burger King hamburger with chips said it was a lot better than our hamburgers. Seeing we had enough of people watching we decided it was time to go to the Departures Lounge but first we saw Travelex Money Exchange open so we asked how much Aussie dollars they had and exchanged our Canadian dollars at a very good rate with no fees and left her with no Aussie dollars. Once we get to toronto we will exchange the rest of our Canadian dollars hopefully at the same rate. Security here is pretty strict even for Domestic flights, shoes, coats, anything metal is to be removed, computers out of bags and all other bags on separate trays then you go through a scanner. I must have that look on my face because every time I go through I get checked this time a body touch down and the drug swab probe you know what you see on Border Security. All this I find very entertaining and Richard has a laugh because every time we go to airports we have bets to see if I get checked and every time I loose because I get pulled aside, but they have to do their job and I have no worries.
While waiting we had a coffee at Tim Horton's only to find out the flight was running late, which turned out to be one hour late and this was making it a very tight squeeze for our connecting flight at 6.25pm to LA. We were told it would be okay as the clock goes back an hour and once we clear Customs we should make it in time.
It was a full flight and we misunderstood the calling of passengers to board we were seating in the first row on the plane but didn't get on till later and our carry on bag Richard had to store half wait down the plane. Flight from Halifax to Toronto was meant to leave at 3.40pm and we finally left at 4.40pm for a tow and a half hour flight. There was quite a bit of turbulence when we took off and the weather was very bad but once up in the air above the clouds and into our flight the weather improved. It was good being in the first row we had plenty of leg room and you get freebies so we didn't have to pay for extra food or drinks. The lady in the opposite side to us had a very loud voice and talked to whole trip (two and a half hours) she gave us a headache and you couldn't rest.
Sat next to a lovely gentleman from Montreal who overheard our problem when we were speaking to the Head Flight Attendant near the end of the flight and he said wasn't in a hurry and for us to change places with our overhead storage. This was great as it meant Richard didn't have to run half way down the plane to get our carry-on bag and wade through the aisle and be delayed in getting off the plane. We thanked everyone and were first off the plane ready to run.
Will continue with Part Two of today's nightmare tomorrow.
Goodbye Canada
