Alarm set for 7.30am seeing
breakfast ends at 9am and we don’t want to miss breakfast again like when we
first arrived on 8 March. Joined the queue for an omelette just like being in a
cafeteria with your tray. Found a table near the waterfall took extra fruit and
muffins for later when we got hungry.
Decided to get an all-day pass on
the Sun Trolley (US $3.00 each) to see the sights on the way to the Gallery
Mall for Richard to buy his runners. Big centre but not his brand of runners.
Walked down Sunrise Boulevard over the canal (lots of waterways here similar to
Mandurah) to the coast and continued along the beach front, which looks like
home but has more umbrellas.
Getting hot hailed the Sun
Trolley past the B Ocean Hotel, which is actually an old cruise ship looks
fantastic but couldn’t get a photo from the trolley. The trolley drivers are
very helpful with information on places we wanted to see like Bass Pro (a big
sporting complex) we visited outside of Toronto, the Everglades and Miami.
A day of adventure first we caught
the free white Tri Rail Shuttle, which we thought would take us to Griffin Road
Tri Rail Station where the Bass Pro Complex is near. But no the lovely driver
showed us where we catch Bus 1 on Federal Highway, which will take us round the
corner from Dania Community Library where we catch Bus 4 or 16 to Griffin Road.
On our adventure we are meeting
lots of lovely people who are helping us with directions and one chap at the
bus stop is going to Griffin Road and he is going to show us where Bass Pro is
seeing he shops there. Talked to another chap who was going to England and he
didn’t want to wait for the No. 4 or 16 so when a different Tri Trail shuttle
came he found out the driver goes to Griffin Road so we get on for the free
ride thinking we would get there quicker. No, no the shuttle went around the
world through lower suburbs one wouldn’t want to walk at night, to shopping
centres and hotels before it finally arrived at Griffin Road Tri Trail Station.
A nice young Negro lady gave us directions and showed us where to walk to Bass
Pro.
The Bass Pro Shop is just the
same as the big Bass Pro Shop in Canada, Richard had a great time wondering
around looking at all their different fishing gear bought a popper and lure
clips which are cheaper than in Australia. Pity they didn’t have the expensive
fishing gear Richard was after, but then America and Canada have different
fishing to us.
At least this time the journey
back to the Embassy Suites was a little quicker, the Ticket Attendant at Tri
Rail told us to hurry to catch the free Tri Rail Shuttle to the Fort Lauderdale
International Airport then Bus No.1. This is what the Sun Trolley driver told
us this morning but we couldn’t understand his Caribbean accent.
The highways and overpasses are
massive like Canada and we would have been lost if we rented a car plus the
drivers are speedsters. Had a bit of fun trying to get from one side of the
airport to the other. The Tri Rail shuttle stopped at Departures and we had to
get to the other side of the road (two tiers) to Arrivals. It was fun up and
down escalators and lifts till we managed with the help of some people to find
Stop 7 for bus No.1.
Tired and exhausted by the time
we arrived back to the Embassy Suites the weather was quite warm and the sun
block is doing its job. Relaxed with a cup of coffee and caught up with compute
work and emails, lovely to have internet access that works and is not slow.
It’s a pity hotels don’t provide
TV guides as the shows are so old and there are too many adverts especially
health ones you might as well roll over and die.
