In the early hours of this
morning, Coral Princess passed the “Gulf of Tehuantepec” where most hurricanes
that form in the eastern Pacific are generated from this area. A surge of
cooler drier air originating from Nth America causes a gale force wind called
the “Tehuano”. It blows out over the Gulf causing an upwelling of cooler
waters, the wind and upwelling are referred to as a “Tehuano event”. The air is
denser than the tropical air mass normally present, thus a strong pressure
gradient is established which induces the wind. The wind is further accelerated
by funnelling through the Chivela Pass. Thankfully this didn’t happen when we
passed through that area.
Slept well, woke to views of the
hazy outline coast of El Salvador on the horizon late breakfast and another
relaxing day at sea. Checked Princess Patter daily guide and at 11am while
Richard was still resting, I went to Deck7 Princess Theatre to listen to Bill
Fall’s Port lecture “A bit of paradise at the tip of Baja California” our next
port of call Cabo San Lucas where Coral Princess will be anchored outside the
harbour.
Looks very interesting from the
slide show of photos, from the cruise terminal there is a boardwalk that wraps
around the harbour adjacent to many of the shops and restaurants. Many of the
other attractions are within a few blocks of each other.
Before lunch “Hammonia Roma” a
cargo freighter sailed passed us on our starboard side. Lunch was a bit of a
pain, a family of five have contracted gastroenteritis so now we cannot touch
anything in the Horizon Court buffet area. Plates, cutlery and meals are
serviced to us by staff members, even satchels of pepper and salt and hot or
cold drinks. Coral Princess has gone a little overboard but then there are no
wash basins at the entries only hand sanitisers, which don’t kill germs. It is
going to be very interesting in the Bordeaux Dining Room tonight.
Out on our balcony we spent the
afternoon talking to Red and Sharon from suite next door, while looking at the
Mexican coastline before a photo shot, as the Captain announced we would be
sailing a mile off the Bay of Acapulco, hotel resorts and the city of Acapulco.
Quite an expansive beach lined with tall buildings and villas nestled in the
mountainside. The place to come if you have money to waste.
It’s amazing how the day goes so
quickly when you are at sea doing very little. Time to get ready for dinner,
Bordeaux Dining Room is a bit busy tonight might be due to the gastroenteritis
outbreak. The service and meal is also very slow, but not Constantine with my
Menu for tomorrow night. Two courses in 1¼ hours just finished in time to have a quick look at watches before finding
a seat in the Universe Lounge (Deck 6) at 8.15pm to watch the production show
“On the Bayou” starring the Coral Princess singers and dancers. It was a
brilliant show, lounge was decorated as though you were in New Orleans on the
Bayou. Started as a Funeral Procession with Orchestra and dancers coming down
the aisle way to the stage with songs following the story of the person rising
from the coffin life in the Bayou and meeting the love of his life.
After we stopped at the comfortable Wheelhouse Bar to listen to music
with Sol Play, nice and relaxing music before having a bowl of fresh fruit
(with the waiters serving us) and retiring for the night.
