Margate, England, United Kingdom
Today is another adventure, last walk in the woods before leaving Canterbury to Margate to have lunch with Richard's cousin Christopher and wife Gillian. Richard hasn’t seen Christopher since he really left the UK in the 60’s.

Arthur and Edna also leave today for Hastings and Arthur was giving Richard safety tips on final check of the motorhome making sure everything was disconnected, relevant tanks emptied, gas on for fridge, water switched off for travel on the road. They have been a life saver for us wee novices.

Edna is a gem she phoned the Caravanning Club site at Fairlight Wood in Hastings and we can join the club there to get the discounts as a member to all their sites. So we will catch up with them probably tomorrow night. With photos and email addresses exchanged we said our goodbyes, the Garmin Satnav is set and we are off to Margate.

The Garmin is a live saver the first stop to ASDA in Sturry Road (A28) was a breeze for the last incidentals (my linen shopping bag that has been all over the world with us is now in a new stolen home).

A28 virtually takes us straight to Margate through the "Food Bowl" of Kent. One minute you are in Canterbury then in the green countryside of rolling hills, fields of different produce, little villages you feel as though you have gone back in time. Pity Australia hasn’t learnt from the UK, just clear all the vegetation leave bare sand and build. I would prefer to look over lush green land instead of a mass of Colorbond or tiled roofs any day.

Sorry to say the weather is still overcast and the wind chills the bones. Found Christopher’s home in Westbrook Bay, Westgate on Sea very easily. Their street runs off the oceanfront street that takes you to Margate.

The wind coming off the ocean is bitterly cold but we braved the walk along the top walkway of the grassed area in front of the homes. You can see the chalked cliffs on the lower promenade walk round the sea front and in the distance you can see rows of the little beach huts.

Gillian had prepared a lovely hot lunch and dessert, time passes very quickly when you haven’t seen someone for over fifty years. All the stories, photos and family history to catch up on. They have a lovely two storey home and a beautiful lush green back garden with a hidden area growing fruit trees and vegie garden.

Seeing it was too late to travel on the decision was made to stay the night in our motorhome.

You wouldn’t believe it but there is blue sky and the sun is shining, good excuse to take a stroll along the lower sea promenade to enjoy the views and walk to Margate at the end of the bay in the distance. The sun has brought everyone out, people are playing games on the grass, walking dogs and enjoying themselves. Some have ventured to their beach huts and having a drink by the sea. It was an enjoyable walk.

After a warm shower and supper with Christopher and Gillian it was time to retire to our little home on wheels, which Christopher and Gillian found quite interesting.
