You always get a good night's sleep by the ocean the sound of the sea puts you to sleep. Once the clothes were washed and packed away we were ready for our drive to Hastings and once again the Garmin Satnav wanted to send us via a motorway not a scenic route. So we tried finding/following the A259 which as usual is difficult as it is different names, which are hard to find (low on buildings, hidden behind foliage) if only they were high on street poles it would make life very easy. In the end Richard keyed in towns ahead till he could finally key in Hastings.

Our first stop was to be West Hythe to ride the miniature train to Dungeness have the famous Fish and Chips at either The Pilot or Britannia but when Richard found out how tiny it was plus the bumpy ride there and back to West Hythe he declined. We saw the miniature steam train and carriages as we were heading to New Romney. It is a tourist attraction but is in service taking passengers to and from Dungeness. This train and railway track was used in WW11 to transport equipment and food to the front so the army could move forward with a constant supply of weapons, etc. plus the train brought back the wounded and dead.

The road now heads inland to Brenzett passing through the farming districts mainly sheep, tiny villages, here the road turns and heads back to the coast. On the horizon near Brooklands you can see rows of wind turbines and sheep grazing with baby lambs on both sides the road.

Would have loved to stop at Rye a quaint town on the Rye River near all the boats but all the carpark have a height barrier so one cannot park a motorhome (thanks to the Gypsies) plus verge parking is expensive to we soldiered on to Winchelsea Beach where we parked on the road side like other vans to have lunch. What a view on one side of the mound/walkway you have the pebble beach and the other side of the road you see sheep and cattle grazing with homes in the distance.

Now the fun starts to find the Caravanning and Motorhome Site Fairlight Wood off Pett Road. This was recommended to us by Arthur and Edna a quiet site in the woods which they love and we were going to meet up with them after seeing Richard’s cousin in Margate, but there were towns we wanted to explore beforehand and we didn’t want to rush plus we couldn’t get on the internet to let them know we would be a few days late.

As usual when in doubt ask a local and you will get directions and ours was a lovely scaffolding lad who directed us by pubs and luckily we found the site down a tiny lane and you know about the great signage.

Low and behold who should be walking through the main entry to the site none other than Arthur and Edna what a warm welcoming? They thought we had gone elsewhere. Joined them in their motorhome and had a catch-up chat over coffee and biscuits before signing up to the Caravanning and Motorhome Club (more sites to go to).

Enjoyed a lovely walk through the woods with Arthur and Edna, there are bluebells everywhere what a beautiful site to see. Back to Arthur and Edna’s for a cuppa and chat about motorhome sites, places to stay and see it was late and time to shower, have dinner and catch-up on the internet.
