Freezing in Worthing

Saturday, May 13, 2017
Worthing, England, United Kingdom
Good downpour this morning, overcast, chilly and a mist blanketing the rolling hills of the farms in the Clapham area of the South Downs, which extends right across East and West Sussex from Eastbourne to Winchester to nearly as far north as Farnham.

Richard and I are now in the swing of preparing to arrive and depart at a Caravan and Motorhome Site regarding power, water, dumping of waste, grey water and everything inside the motorhome is stored correctly and secured. You don't want cupboards flying open when you turn a corner and things falling all over the place, which I must say has happened a couple of times.

This morning we are heading for Goring-by-Sea in the hope that some of Richard’s old haunts are still there. He couldn’t find his old Boarding School Goring Hall it was sold many years ago.

Parking wasn’t a problem on the seafront at Goring-by-Sea found a good spot near a grass area where we can walk up a small rise through there shrubs onto the Promenade along the seafront. Every seaside town we have come to has rows of little Beach Huts we can see these all the way to Worthing where we are heading. Pity we didn’t have a second bike for me would make take less time getting to towns when we park a distance away, but then we would enjoy the walk.

It is Saturday the sun is shining and everyone is out cycling, walking their dogs and enjoying a day at the seaside. The wind cuts right through you and we shiver when we see folks in summer clothes. Rows of apartments line the street and as you get closer to Worthing you see the attractive old Georgian style apartments and buildings.

On the seaside is The Luna with rides and games for the kids with a row of little stores at the front selling souvenirs, ice-creams and cafe. The Worthing Pier is very old you have the Theatre Pavilion at front where you can still see shows and a lovely Tearoom then when you walk out on the Pier half way there is the Pier Entertainment of rides and amusement machines and the very end a Café also a lower area where one can fish.

Wandering down the walking streets, main square of Worthing through the Saturday Markets before heading back to the motorhome for lunch then off to catch up with another cousin of Richard’s Margaret and Fred in Hove near Brighton. They divide their time between Hove and Bromley close to London.

Lovely to see them, as it has been twenty-five years since we last saw them in Perth, we all haven’t changed only got older.

Enjoyed afternoon tea and the usual chin-wag of catch- up and photos before dinner.

Fred prepared a really lovely meal for us roast duck leg with vegetables, followed by wine trifle (a joke from Christmas in Perth when Fred had many servings of my wine trifle) fruit and coffee before resting in front of the TV then retiring for the night.

Margaret and Fred like Christopher and Gillian loved our motorhome and the adventure of touring the UK and Ireland.
