Through the valley's to Looe

Looe, England, United Kingdom
Spoke too soon woke to the gently sound of rain after a lovely sunny day yesterday hope it improves before we get to Dartmouth. Absolutely chill to the bone this morning had to put the little electric heater to defrost myself. Looking out the window I don't know how the chap next to us slept in his one man swag and now he is having breakfast standing under the raised hatch boot of his car. The constant drizzle hasn’t stopped him from going about business on his iPad, texting, packing his side bags of his bike and getting ready to go cycling for the day.

Change of plans Richard has decided he doesn’t want to go to Dartmouth on the Dart River to do the Round Robin Tour of catching the steam train on the other side of the Dart River enjoying the views of Dartmouth and the South Devon countryside then taking a river cruise from Totnes back to Dartmouth (depending on the tides). He has had enough of harbours and boats plus we have seen a few of them.

Still a miserable English day, Richard has played around with the Satnav hoping to improve on finding our destinations a bit better. We have potted our plan of attacking Devon and Cornwall, so today instead of heading to the picturesque Dartmouth we are going to Looe on the coast of Cornwall some 1 to 2 hour’s drive away depending where the Satnav sends us.

You guessed it our drive starts with the one car lanes lined with hedges and the constant thought of Tim’s words "be careful there’s a brick wall behind those hedges". You have to have your wits about you looking out for a car coming in the other direction and pulling over in the small waysides to let them through. A continual dance with a wave of thanks from either party.

The hinterlands we travel through are really beautiful up and down valleys, small villages, farmhouses and animals dotted in the distance, sometimes travelling through dense forests or roads in a canopy of trees.

The M5 over the River Exe with views all the way down to Exmouth and A38 Devon Expressway made the journey quicker instead of the coastal route and missing the Toll Bridge at Dartmouth plus less traffic too. The motorway skirted around the Dartmoor Forest on the right beautiful thick green vegetation.

Coming towards Plymouth over the bridge all you see is a view of box houses (looks like housing estates) a working Port. The Satnav took us through the back streets of rows of identical houses to miss the Toll Bridge and the surprise was we caught a car ferry across the river and seeing we weren’t coming back this way it cost us nothing for the ride.

The A374 snakes around the River Tiddy which you can just see below through the canopy of trees and in the distance you can see a beautiful old arched brick railway bridge over the valley and river at St Germans.

Thank god we have a 2.3 diesel motor to tackle all the winding roads up and down the continual valleys of the rich countryside and the views make the journey seem a lot quicker.

At last we have made it to the Looe Caravan and Motorhome Club site and as always it is raining. The site is of a sloping nature on a hilltop with many of the pitches having distant views of Looe Bay. We have a view across the valley of farms, fields and woods, very relaxing even though the caravan site is nearly three quarter full. Had to wait for the rain to stop to hook up to the power and get settled for the night. Bit cold for the heated swimming pool, game of tennis or crazy golf.
