Go away rain we want to cycle around Bath

Bath, England, United Kingdom
The chirping birds and church bells woke me at 5am but the gentle sound of the rain put me back to sleep. Looks like an overcast rainy day today driving to Bath.

Spent part of the morning with a lovely Welsh retired couple we met yesterday and as usual had our map for Susan to tell us of places to see and sites to stay at in Wales and Scotland. Time flies when you are having an in-depth conversation and again it is time to say goodbye to new friends and drive off in the rain to Bath.

To our surprise the Satnav directed us through the dramatic cliffs of the Cheddar Gorge on B3135 a gorgeous three mile drive of winding roads and rugged vegetation at the bottom of the gorge to bask in the sheer size of the cliffs above our heads. Spotted a goat charging across the road, people on a double decker tour bus, other getting ready for the caves and tourists silly enough to go rock climbing.

Once again we trusted our instincts and not the Satnav when we saw the road it was guiding us to and not the A39 with the Bath sign. The countryside is flat with lush green field's lots of milking cows, rolling hills in the distance and quaint little villages that we drove through. Can’t get over how the houses are right on the edge of the road, wouldn’t want to fall out the front door.

In no time we had arrived on the outskirts of Bath and hidden nestled amid the grassy banks and shady trees on the most treasured stretches of the River Avon is our home for the next two nights Bath Marina & Caravan Park set amongst beautifully landscaped lawns and woodlands. What we like about this site is it is the first one to have FREE WIFI, which we took great advantage of seeing the rain wouldn’t stop.

The decision was a quick visit to Lidl to stock up on supplies and settle in our little motorhome for the rest of the day. No use cycling along the towpath by the River Avon we wouldn’t enjoy the beautiful views of the river and canals (lots of barges) the old canal side pubs or taking in the abundance of wildlife on offer. The caravan site is approximately 2 miles from Bath a good distance to cycle but not in the pouring rain.

Looks like the weather will not be improving tomorrow so I think we will get rugged up armed with the umbrella and rain jackets do the Park & Ride, which is close by into Bath. Richard researched Bath on Trip Advisor and we will do the FREE Walking Tour at either 10.30am or 2pm in the afternoon depending how bad the weather is tomorrow.
