Los Alcazares, Murcia, Spain and Canary Islands
As you can see we have now moved further south to Los Alcázares, Murcia.

We said goodbye to Liz & Martin, me still in my nightie - they're early leavers and we are not. As soon as their space emptied it was filled by some friends of theirs. I think our's was filled pretty quick as someone was waiting outside the campsite ready to drive in as we went out.

The route was pretty twisty but a main road. We stopped for diesel and LPG at El Campello, took a wrong turn after leaving the fuel station and found ourselves heading back the way we came. There was nowhere immediate where we could turn back so we had to carry on back through a tunnel with workman at the entrance until Mike found we could do a funny turn into a restaurant car park, pass the workmen at the tunnel for the third time and continue our journey. We by-passed Alicante and Torrevieja to Los Alcázares.

I had heard that the aire had been full but that for a reduced price you could stay on the 'overflow' car park but use the facilities of the main parking and I expected that we would have to do this. When we arrived we could see one van on the overflow and some spaces in the camper area.

They have here three sizes of pitch and we have plumped for the second size which is costing us the princely sum of 12.50€ a night. We haven't got electricity ( we chose not to have it ) so I still can't use my brand new hair dryer and straighteners! If we stayed for seven nights it would reduce to 8.50€. There are toilets, showers, all the usual motorhome facilities, washing machines, a restaurant and, like the campsite at Villajoyosa, a specific area to wash your camper!

We're parked amongst the big blighters again. Next door we have Mr & Mrs Swedish Hymer, opposite we have two Mr & Mrs German Frankia's. Mr German Frankia dead opposite opened the door of the rear locker on his van today to reveal a built-in wardrobe! Somewhere further down is a Swiss camper (another biggy). Contrary to what you might think, I don't dislike these big campers, I just can't imagine trying to get into a supermarket car park in one but then most have a tow car to use for shopping. They must be lovely and roomy once parked up though. Funny thing is, you don't see many of them actually on the road - I wonder how they get where they are!

We'd come here because we wanted to meet up with Ken & Carole again (who we stayed with on our way down through France). They were going to be staying in a villa somewhere here. Once we'd got settled a text was sent off to Carole and then one to Ken (belt & braces to make sure at least one of them got it). Phone rang, a voice said "have you eaten yet? Do you fancy going out for an Indian meal?" Replied "Yeah, where are you?" "About 200 yards from you" came the answer. It turned out that they are staying two very small streets away from us here!

We went out for our very nice Indian. It was a set menu for 25€ for two people including a bottle of wine. You could choose any two of four starters and the same for the main course and either rice or naan bread. Also included in the price were poppadums and a complimentary after dinner liqueur shot of your choice.

It was a very good meal but neither Mike nor I could finish ours. We finished the evening at Carole & Ken's for a digestive and then walked the long distance home. Fortunately, we'd had the forethought to take a key for the gate as the big entry gates are locked at night.

12.50€ per night without electricity. Medium pitch.
