Oh what a day!

Cádiz, Andalusia, Spain and Canary Islands
Well, where do I start!

Mike spent the morning pulling the camper apart - again! We have a cupboard above the hob extractor and every day we find crumbs along the gap between the cupboard and the extractor and after they're cleaned off more arrive .

Last night he'd had enough and so emptied the cupboard in readiness for this morning. So while I spent the morning in bed (best place to keep out of the way) Mike took the cupboard to pieces. Was it an easy job - no! He had to take the cupboard door off, remove the shelf then remove the floor of the cupboard (no easy job in itself). He did find crumbs of bread, salt and possibly sugar and so it would appear that's where the previous owners had kept those things.

He managed to hoover most of the crumbs out but not all as there were some wires there and the crumbs were stuck. No doubt we'll get more shaken down over time but at least we know we don't have mice! He managed to put it all back together without any left over screws.

I've come to the conclusion we're useless at sight-seeing! We've walked miles and miles up and down little alley roads looking for the blinkin' cathedral, getting lost, giving up and having to ask someone the way back to the port. Another man had overheard us asking for the port and he walked with us for a while, giving us further instructions, until he got to his house. We'd tried to converse but anything other than port, goodbye and thank you was not possible but when he left us he shook Mike's hand and gave me a kiss on both cheeks. Following his directions to go straight on, we found the Plaza with the bl***y Cathedral . No photos because it's too tall and too close!

The man had indicated to go straight on from the Plaza but which lane to take? There were three leading off from the opposite side from where we entered. We plumped for the middle one - WRONG! Back into the labyrinth we went. Mike's theory of downhill will lead to the sea was ignored and we went uphill to the sea. The wrong bit of sea! No sign of the port.

We saw a building we thought was a police station and so thought we'd go in there to ask. When all else fails read the sign outside properly! It was a sports hall!! At least it saved us having to ask anyone else.

This time it was 'downhill leads to the sea', by now we're both needing a loo stop. Eventually Mike spots one of the loading gantries at the port. 'Keep that in sight and the sun behinds us' I says. Gantry disappears behind tall buildings and sun goes in. Not only does the sun go in but the sky goes black and there's a rainbow out to sea . We got back just in time to make it to a loo and avoid the downpour of rain, the pair of us absolutely exhausted.

We'd walked miles looking for the Cathedral when, in actual fact, it was probably only half a mile down the road.

My advice for those who want to sight-see here and there is a lot to see - don't disappear into the streets until you've been to the Tourist Office first and got a map, that's what most sensible people do! We definitely do not appear to be among those people.

We've a wet evening here now and the forecast is not good for tomorrow either.

8:40 pm and band practice has just started again, this time a trumpet or bugle. The drums have joined in now. It's nearly as 'tuneful' as that we heard last year at Almuñécar. It's really rather nice even if it's a bit 'dirgey'. The music has now stopped at 11:10 pm - I think.

Ha ha yes made me lol when I read about the trumpets. Brought back memories. At least you are getting to do some sight seeing and yes a tourist map is advisable but what would you have written about if you had.
