Boat Trip

Albufeira, Faro, Portugal
There were eight of us from here going out on the boat, all English, so someone had to drive the minibus and follow Pedro in the car. One of the other English guys offered to drive. I know he had to drive fast to keep up with Pedro but it was the most uncomfortable ride I've ever had. If he drives his motorhome like that his wife must have a rough ride. I wanted to ask if the minibus had a gearbox because I don't think he changed gear at all, us ladies at the back got slung all over the place. I'm only glad I managed to get the lap belt done up in the end.

I was a bit disappointed that we weren't going out on the same rubber thingy we went on two years ago but a bigger boat made of aluminium, is this the same one you went out on Pat? With see through plastic sides and a roof . I really enjoyed the trip and unfortunately, like our last trip, didn't manage to see any Dolphins. I know they're there because I saw footage on facebook of the Dolphins alongside the boat in January. Maybe third time lucky!

The photo's I have put on here are from our previous boat trip, due to the fact that I couldn't take any that didn't have the orange bars from the superstructure in them.

After the caves we headed out away from the coast to look for the non-existent Dolphins! The ride was a bit on the bumpy side to say the least. We made the mistake of sitting up front. Originally I sat on a side seat facing inward but I changed with Mike for a front facing one because my feet wouldn't reach the floor! Good job I did, I managed to hang on to the bar and the underneath of the seat but there was one poor woman opposite Mike who, like me, had short legs and she was leaving her seat on a regular basis. A very young girl who was sitting at right angles to this seat was in tears . She couldn't stop laughing at this poor woman who had nothing to hold on to. In all honesty the lady herself was in stitches.

After our return, the eight of us had a coffee before setting off home. The guy who'd driven asked if anyone else would like to drive so Mike offered. At least he would change gear when necessary even if we did kangaroo down the car park 'till he got a bit of space between him and the previous driver - there were three men in the front so it was a bit squahed!

Having got ourselves out of the car park it became clear that no-one could remember the exact route home, no Pedro this time.

First off, a double trip around the outside parking area to get back to the roundabout and take the right exit. Next roundabout we got right but somewhere along the way we got it wrong and finished up in a cul-de-sac of posh houses. Next we headed for Guia, if we headed for there it would be easy peasy to find our way back . Not so! With seven people giving various directions, it was inevitable that the wrong route would be chosen and so down a little street we went. I thought 'we've been here before, only in the camper'! Eventually, we got to the roundabout that if we turned right would take us up to the Algarve shopping centre and on the right road for home. Simple! NO!

With everyone shouting something different he couldn't hear me from right at the back but we got on the right road in the end. We surprised an orange seller on the side of the road when we pulled up and four people spilled out to buy 5 kg of oranges each - they were only 2.5€ for 5 kg. in the end we arrived back safe and sound at Motorhome Friends at the same time as Pedro who must have wondered where we'd been.

After taking a rest and discussing the merits or otherwise of the different boat, all four of us who'd been two years ago said we definitely preferred the rubber boat - it was smaller it was more personal (although Pedro and Alex were their usual charming and amusing selves, well Pedro was, he's the outgoing one of the two); because it was open you had a better opportunity for photos (no nasty orange bars getting in the way) and they could go further into the caves.

Mike and I took ourselves off to visit Ralf and Angela and to get a look inside their Concorde. We had a very good visit with them having drunk the bottle of wine we took. They speak extremely good English and French in addition to their native German. Clever so and so's but very, very nice.

All. In all it was a lovely day, lovely weather, shame about the disappearing Dolphins but great being on the ocean and the Algarve certainly has a beautiful coastline best seen from the sea.
