Sunday is a day of rest - isn't it?

Well, it is and it isn't for us today. Mike woke up with a swollen and bruised toe which he thinks he hurt during the night by getting it hooked under the metal bar that is at the end of the bed to stop the mattress sliding off the bottom of the bed.

We dossed around this morning just enjoying the sunshine, Mike cooked us a brunch and we sat around reading and me doing a bit of knitting . I've noticed that when I knit my toes twitch in time with my knitting - funny that!

This afternoon we went walkies along the cliffs on the southern side of the peninsula to see if we could find the way down to the beautiful looking beach which is the Praia da Mareta.

It took a while but we got down there and it is such a lovely beach, far better than any of those we saw in Spain. Nice firm sand, some rocks at the far end from where we got on so we walked and paddled along to them. There are a couple of beach bar/restaurants that were actually open. The walk back up got me puffing a bit and not made easier by the fact that I was barefoot, trying to dry the sand off before putting my sandals back on for the walk back.

The beach (Praia do Tonel) on the other side of the peninsula is where the surfers hang out, the water there is much more suited to them being much rougher.

The rest of the afternoon we read and sat in the sun for a while but finished up back in the van because, although it was windy, the sun was too bright.

Tonight our dinner was not one of my successes! We had some Portuguese sausages and some we bought from Iceland in Spain. The Portuguese ones are a sort of dark pink and do not change colour even when cooked. The Iceland ones, well I actually wondered what they were made from! Looked and tasted like they could have been made from Quorn but they weren't!

Anyway, these lovely things were part of one of my 'one pot' meals, which is based on a simple kind of risotto - nothing like the proper ones - and usually they are quite nice but the sausages spoilt it. Shan't be doing that again. We'll go back to Mike cooking Pork Chops again.
