Sight-Seeing Again

Silves, Faro, Portugal
We waited until late afternoon before going to see what Silves has to offer as it was far too hot to go earlier. Fortunately there wasn't as much walking involved as I thought as Mike is still suffering with a painful toe from where he jammed it in the bed! We found the tourist office and got a map but the guy who runs the site here had told me I could get a more detailed one at the tourist information office by the municipal office. We found that but boy did we have a job to get out again!

To start with, I went in alone and there was no-one there . It wasn't your usual T.I.O., more about archeological information. The guy from the office eventually turned up and took us to view a video about renovation work and proceeded to tell Mike (not me) how they needed a new television, how old the existing one was and how expensive it was when bought. When I attempted to ask questions on a couple of occasions about the work being shown on the video, he ignored that and continued to talk about the distribution of funds for various projects and 'blue bag money' - money allocated from one pot used for something totally different! A bit like UK road tax not being used to fill potholes I suppose. Eventually, he answered one question but then got distracted by a couple of young Dutch girls who came in for a map. Even then we couldn't escape straight away.

Eventually we got out and found the museum and castle but there wasn't time to look around so we're staying here another night so we can go tomorrow..

We returned by our usual circuitous route, finishing up at the same set of steps we started out on. Not quite as difficult as getting out of Cadiz. Mike said he had his inbuilt GPS turned on and tuned in.

On our return we turned on all our fans to cool the inside of the van off and sat outside for a well earned G & T. Me in the shade and Mike in the sun. It was still too hot for me.
