Playing tourist

London, England, United Kingdom
Played a real tourist today, and took a very good guided tour of The Houses of Parliament. It was well worth it, as we went into quite a number of rooms etc. including both chambers, although we could not see the Queen's robing room as it had not been tidied up after the Opening of Parliament on Wednesday. Interestingly, although we went into both the Commons and the Lords, we were not allowed to sit on the benches. Also no photography allowed except in Westminster Hall and St. Stephen's Hall. The latter has many statues of past notables, including both Pitts and Charles James Fox, and a couple I've never heard of. The entrance lobby to the Commons has statues of some Prime Ministers: Atlee, Lloyd George, Asquith, Churchill (larger than life), and...........Maggie Thatcher! The whole building is very impressive and you can't see the evidence of how it will fall to pieces unless they do something about it.

Okay, it sounds like I need to go back to London as I haven't been through the HoP. Enjoying your blog, Liz.

Surely Curchill is/was always larger than life Liz. Sounds like a good tour. We will have to look into that one in a couple of weeks time.
