Following in the footsteps of Henry VIII

London, England, United Kingdom
Spent Thursday at Hampton I Court, with my friend Angela, who I met on the cruise last year. For once we had great weather, it was hot all day. The palace is a spectacular place and I think has been smartened up recently. There are performances of scenes from Henry's time that you can watch, and we saw Tudor Welcome, with a violinist and knights and ladies dancing, and then a scene featuring Anne Boleyn and her suggested lover Thomas Wyatt. This last took place in Henry's wine cellar!
We wandered through the Chapel royal, William III's apartments - on (the were hundreds of 17th century weapons, which were assured were authentic from William's time, and which are taken down every 25 years for cleaning .
We also went through Henry VIII's apartments and also saw a replica of his crown; the original no longer exists, and unfortunately we were not allowed to photograph the replica.
We finished up in the newest of the Queens Picture Galleries, the Cumberland Art Gallery, which has only been open at Hampton Court for about 6 months.
All together a great day out.
But no, we didn't go into the maze.

A trip to Hampton Court is much more interesting than it used to be.

The welcome and re-enactments sound great. They didn't do that when I was there in 1983! It was raining that day so didn't do the maze. Love mazes even though I am not good at them.
