A flying display - birds, not aeroplanes!

Stonham Aspal, England, United Kingdom
Wednesday was supposed to be a lazy day, but I didn't want to sit in the hotel ALL day, so decided to go to the Suffolk Owl Sanctuary at Stonham Aspal. Only 30 mins drive from Ipswich and well worth it.  There was a display of flying owls and raptors: a Bateleur Eagle, a Lanner Falcon, a common buzzard and a Barn Owl. When the Bateleur Eagle was low-flying, I thought I was going to get my head scraped by the talons. He came a bit closer than I would have thought was safe.

The various owls and raptors in their aviaries were fascinating, and they also had some slender tailed meerkats, and some ferrets, which were all very amusing . They also have an Owl Hospital which treats injured birds, mostly they are injured on the roads.

Beautiful photos, I love the raptors. And who doesn't like meerkats?

Interesting lazy day Liz! Often watch eagle/owl displays in Cheshire and find them quite clever....

Interesting place = how long has it been there? Would loved to have visited.
Are you on your way up to Gt Yarmouth? If so can you send some photos?
