Cold As Ice

Day 117 Surprisingly it did not warm up 10C from last night to next so we didn't sleep all that well again. We got up and headed straight back. At this juncture we do not know how far the van will go on a tank of gas. This made the trip back to Injune a little nerve racking by the end as we were riding on empty (there is no fuel closer to the gorge). We ended up making it no problems, fueled up grabbed a breakfast sandwich and coffee. In what seemed like no time we were back in Roma. It being the middle of the week everything was open. We pulled into downtown to do some shopping to accessorize the van. We bought some sheets, new pillows as the old ones we had were pretty flat and a comforter for the bed. Some new curtains would be nice too, we just didn't see anything that really stood out. We got home around dinner time and were devastated there was no hot water. The day we left we had a power outage and while trying to figure out what tripped the circuit, we shut off the water heater and didn't remember to turn it back on. We turned it on and figured it would be ready in a few hours. It wasn't lol! We took probably the quickest showers of our lives and went to bed. Talking to Greg the next day he explained that there is a timer on the water heater. It is set up so the heater doesn't run during peak hours. Pretty much the water STARTED heating shortly after we went to bed.
Being back from the test run we now had to make adjustments to the van. First thing we did was cut the back splash down to half the size. It was really hard to reach over it from the bed. At this point we still did not pay for it or the counter so we popped in at the kitchen place and had the guy rip it in half, oh and paid. While in town we got some fabric and are going to make our own curtains. Another item on the to-do list was painting all the wood we installed, kitchen, bench and bed. A couple coats later it looks magnificent. Marty also left 2 speakers and a sub woofer in the van. The speakers were installed already but the sub was not hooked up...till yesterday. It fits perfectly in some currently unused space without us even measuring for it. We will be one of the few backpackers bumping Born To Be Wild while "heading down the highway, looking for adventure!" Figuring we are going to need all the space we can get we made a roof rack. We got the tracks in town for a great deal, then painted and attached a metal gate Greg had laying around. Turned out sweet the gate is the perfect size. We are so lucky to be able to do all this thanks to Greg and his farm. We are so close to being done.
