North Tamborine, Queensland, Australia
Day 134 We learned from our Carnarvon trip and were well prepared this time with more blankets. This time the almost zero night temperatures did not phase us. we got up in the morning and started the day with bacon on the provided BBQ and coffee while enjoying the fantastic view. While eating breakfast we were approached by a couple visitors, a nice retired local couple and some turkeys looking for food. The couple greeted us by saying "we came to say hello, we seen your van and knew you were Canadian." We had a nice chat and soaked up some more info on the area. Our first hike of the day was a mere stones throw away as it started pretty much beside the BBQ. The Sandy Creek Trail was a short 2.6 kms with Cameron Falls being the high lite. What a great way to start the morning. We emerged from the forest an hour or so later and were off. We heard about the Tambourine Mountain Distillery and wanted to check it out. On the way we got side tracked by the Beacon Rd. look out and the Witch's Falls. We had a quick lunch and eventually reached the distillery. It was quaint little drive up the one lane driveway, lined with trees on both side. As you pull up it looks like a nice old house with a barn. Could not tell it was a distillery. You walk in and the shop is filled with eastern European nick knacks and glass ware. Behind the counter are two long rows of in house liqueurs. For $5 we got to sample 6 different kinds. We went with Peach, Eucalyptus vodka, Choco-Chilli (awesome chocolate with a hot after taste), and Guava fruit. One word...Yum! From there we took a 2 minute drive to Eagle's Heights to check out the Gallery Walk. It was a short street filled with boutiques and such. We indulged in some adult only fudge...just alcohol nothing x rated lol. We got Rum N Raisin, Mint Bailey's and Brownie flavours. Then conveniently found the TM (Tambourine Mountain) Brewery where we could sample 4 of their home brews for $10. Can't go wrong with that, we thought and sat around tasting beer. It was a very nice and modern building that also housed a cheese factory where you guessed it we sampled some cheese..that was free. We followed this up with a trip to the library to charge our electronics and headed down to the other side of town, Curtis Falls for the night.
