Tewantin, Queensland, Australia
Day 147 We got up to a nice sunny morning. Goomeri is pretty much a one street town so it did not take us long to walk and explore it. We did stop in at Cheese World and got a couple chunks of some delightful cheeses. We chose to go with the Sweet Chilli and Coriander cheese and Emmental. After this short morning walk we back tracked to the wine route. It's kind of funny that we used to live in the heart of the Ontario wine region and only decided to do one of these wine tours 15,000 kms away. The first place we visited was Clovely Cellars. We tasted 3 whites, 3 reds, a Port and their equivalent to our ice wine due to its sweetness. We grabbed ourselves a bottle of white and Leanne and Greg a bottle of Port as soon to be parting gift. They also had this tiny restaurant at the vineyard built inside an old miking parlor. They only serve lunch on weekends there so we missed out on that but we got to take some cool pics either way. The next winery was only a km down the narrow winding road. Unfortunately we came to discover as we pulled up that it was only open Thursday to Sunday. Not too worry as the next one was basically across the street. It was called Bridgeland Downs and we had to drive through some of the vineyard to get to the store. Their store was located in a 108 year old shed, with tons of character. Their wine list was not as long as the other but they had probably the best red wine I have tried. We bought ourselves a bottle of red and enjoyed a glass with cheese right there in the sunshine. Having had a few drinks and it being lunchtime we stopped in at BP Dam again this time for some lunch. After some nice sandwiches and more sunshine we were off towards the coast. We blew threw Gympie as according to Lonely Planet there has been nothing there since the gold rush in the 1800s. We were almost to our destination of Noosa Heads when we seen a detour for a lookout. We obviously took it and were very happy with it. It was on top of Mt. Tinbeerwah and it is an amazing 360 degree view of the area. Just ridiculously beautiful, the ocean in one direction and endless green of the mountains to the other. It was getting close to dark so we did not have much time left after so we shut it down for the night in the small town of Tewantin.
