Caloundra, Queensland, Australia
Day 151 Again a nice hot day, little windier but still sunny and warm. I got up this morning a bit before Jenn and as I was hanging on the look out, I noticed these 2 older dudes concentrating really hard on the ocean. They were so focused it made me curious. Just what could they be looking at? I made my way over and found out it was whales! Needless to say I didn't take my eyes off the water! No wait I lied, I did go get Jenn from the van! None of them surfaced but the water from their blow holes was unmistakable. Whales before breakfast!
Plans for today were to go to Aussie World . From the ads and billboards we thought it was going to be a sweet theme park but it turned out to be not much more than a fair. In the sense that the rides were not much more than we had at Chinchilla's 100 birthday. We walked around the place in about 5 minutes and decided to ask for our entry fee back. They were really nice about it and it was not a problem. One cool thing however was the over sized bar that was in front of the place. The Ettamogah (Aboriginal for "place of good drink!") Pub is the most photographed pub in the world. It is 18 meters in height and is based on a cartoon from the 1960s. It has a really quirky shape and a 1930s Chevy on the roof, washed up there in a flood, according to the cartoon. We enjoyed a pint on the balcony while deciding what to do with our newly open schedule. The decision was made that since it was so nice out we would head to a different beach. We drove the short distance to Caloundra and registered at a caravan park. We were long overdue for a HOT shower. The park was on Dickey Beach and that is where we spent the next few hours. Later that night we went to the local Surf's Club and enjoyed 3 drinks for $3.50 using the coupons we got from the park upon registering.
