2034 & The Bible

Mackay, Queensland, Australia
Day 183 We headed back to the beach after lunch with our chairs to look for wildlife. The afternoon was spent watching sea turtles swimming by and poking their heads out for air and if you ask me to check out the activity. We were not the only ones out there as there were still fishermen hoping to hook a big one. I would love to share pics of the turtles but our camera, which was generously donated by my sister Chib for the trip, decided it took its last picture for us and broke. As it took so many great pics we wanted to bury it ceremoniously but due to environmental reasons we are just gonna recycle it instead :). On the way back to our camp one of our neighbours invited us for a happy hour campfire. Gee let me think...obviously! We spent the next few hours sitting campfire side drinking cold ones and talking about all off our travels. We were also introduced to "the bible", more on that later.
The next morning we were still awed by the extreme tide. Instead of having coffee and breakfast we went out to the ocean first thing. Let's put it this way, forget the 100 meters I said yesterday! I counted my steps on the way back, all 2034 of them. Then after measuring 5 an average of 80 cm per step was established. Doing the math we walked out just over 1.6 km onto the ocean floor!!! What?! It was an hour trip there and back. We were out there thinking in a matter of hours the water here will be probably a few meters deep and filled with life.
It was an over cast morning and there was a limit of two nights at this free site, so we had to move on. It kind of blah having to put anything on the feet after 2 days of walking around the sand barefoot. Sarina was within 45 minutes and we stopped for lunch and to seek "the bible". With that lunch we seen the best deal ever offered at Crazy Clark's. If your a facebooker you might have seen it already. The pic is below with an explanation. We laughed for hours!!
Sarina was not much more than a street and a half which meant no "bible"  and were out of there quick. The drive to Sarina and Mackay was mostly sugar cane with a backdrop of mountains. After stopping at the info center to pick up some brochures we were back on the hunt for "the bible". It was not hard to find in a place the size of Mackay. We walked into the first BCF (Boating Camping Fishing) outlet and...there it was...we could see it glowing from afar, just sitting there on the shelf, a few copies. Trying to contain our excitement we casually walked over and picked one up and just held it. The holy grail, "CAMP 6" a book of all the free and budget campsites around OZ!!! We took it up to the cash and man this thing was a miracle worker! It was half off!! Cha-Ching!! It did not disappoint as we spent the night just outside of town for $5!!
