Ravenshoe, Queensland, Australia
Day 223 We packed up and left Rocky creek for good. We were heading through Atherton and seen a couple of garage sale signs. Not having been to one of them in like a decade we stopped at three within 4 blocks of each other. We weren't looking for anything in particular and drove away with one book. Following groceries and a lengthy swim at the local pool we headed out on the Savannah Way. About halfway to Ravenshoe, Mt. Hypipamee came up on our left and we lost phone reception. Earlier in the week while talking to a local they mentioned a massive crater in this national park. We pulled in and walked the half click down to the crater. The crater was formed as volcanic gases heated up and needed a release. The gas found its way to the surface and blew this big hole. It goes down about a eighty meters and maybe 60 meters wide. The bottom has collected dead plant life that sits idle in water covered with duck weed. On the back end of the walking circuit we stopped at Dinner Falls for a few pics. Next stop was Ravenshoe the highest town in Queensland, as there was more free camping right in the town of about 1000 residents.
