Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia
Day 295 After getting in to Darwin Saturday afternoon we headed over to Naomi & Pete's for drinks. They live in a nice downtown apartment with friends and their other halves. after a few drinks we met up with Annisa, Jay-Jay, Manu, Seba and Ben for a few drinks at Shenanigans. We were all pretty tired from the farewell party the night before and the hot drive up from Katherine. After the drinks we were supposed to meet Pete for a trip to the casino. That never materialized as he got super drunk and passed out beside the toilet. This was also the reason we did not crash there for the night as that was the plan. We ended up having a hot semi-sleep in the van down by the harbour.
Sunday was Jenn's 21st birthday! After a trip to the mall for a dress and some things for the Bali trip we signed in at a hostel, and took a long afternoon nap. When we got up it was around 6 pm. we had some drinks while getting ready and made our way over to Bunyan Hostel where Manu, Seba and Ben were staying. Naomi and Pete met us there also and after a drink headed off to the casino. Someone forgot to inform them that it was Jenn's birthday as luck wasn't sent our way. We still managed to have fun, especially since you don't need luck to have drinks. Following the casino's lackluster performance we took a cab downtown and found ourselves in Globies. We ran into two things. One was a whole group of people we just left a day earlier in Katherine and the other was a heated soccer game. Manchester United was playing Manchester City and the place was packed with fans. The game proved to be a good one as Man City tied the game with about 10 minutes left, quieting the Man U fans in the bar. But in the 90th minute of the game Van Percie gave Man U the lead back off a free kick. This sent the place into a frenzy as the Man U fans now rejoiced. By the time we left, Ben, Manu and Seba had gone "home" and it was past 2 in the morning (good thing we got that nap in), and the only thing left was to conquer the hunger cravings. The two of us, Naomi and Pete headed down the street for Kebabs and poutines. We made it back to hostel sometime around 3 am and were out cold shortly after.
We could not remember the last time we were up to three in the morning 3 consecutive nights, so yesterday we took it easy. We took care of some last minute pre-trip errands, like going to the bank and picking up our tickets. The rest of the day and night we spent lazing around and watching TV and movies.
Today we did some laundry, packed our two carry ons and are heading over to Jay-Jay's as he is going to drive us to the airport and park the van where he is staying. We are very excited and the next entry should be out of Indonesia, where by the way they had a 7.2 magnitude earthquake last night.
