Vancouver - The Best Place to Live?   Part 12 of 12

Our first order of business upon our arrival on Friday evening was to pick up Barbara at Vancouver International Airport. She flew in from the Queen Charlotte Islands after completing her week of work in this beautiful place. The following week she was working on Bowen Island, near Vancouver.

So this weekend was our last hurrah together so to speak with everyone heading in seperate directions on Sunday.

Being such an interesting city, it was a pleasure to give Glenn and Dianna a quick tour.

Friday evening we just had enough time to walk along Davie Street in search of a restaurant.

Like I discovered in with the Noodle Box in Victoria, finding just the right restaurant is an important ingredient in putting guests in the right frame of mind to be receptive to new surroundings.

In that respect we were fortunate two evenings in a row.

Friday evening we ate at the Cafe Luxy. Great Italian food, large quantities, charming athmosphere, outstanding service, reasonable prices (entrees at around $15) made for an exceptional evening.


It was our good fortune to walk into the restaurant vote the No. 1 Italian Restaurant by readers of the "West Ender" Vancouver - 2001. We would not argue for a moment with this evaluation even though it was in 2001.

Saturday evening, we wandered over to what, for me, is fast becoming a favourirte part of town-Yaletown.

As I reported in my entry: VANCOUVER - Blog No. 5 - Shades of Al Capone, the center of action in this old warehouse district is along Hamilton and Mainland Streets, between Davie and Nelson.

It was there that the restaurant Simply Thai, 1211 Hamilton St. proved to be a hit with great food and a large terrasse to enjoy the warm summer evening. Interest was also added by a close up view of the "The Days of Our Lives" in the loft condos just across the street.


Saturday, I followed the advice in my own Vancouver blogs and did the tour of the town as described. Instead of a lot of walking, we used a car as much as possible to see the maximum amount in the limited time.

The Granville Market on Granville Island proved to be another great hit, especially the beer tasting at the Granville Island Brewery.






I am starting to see a pattern here. When showing guests around town, concentrate on food - you can't miss.


In conclusion, Glenn and Dianna were most taken with Victoria and Vancouver. Two very different places but both are top in their class.

As I metenioned, with everyone heading in different directions tomorrow that concludes another tour of Super, Natural British Columbia.
