Waikiki Aquarium and When Too Much is Too Much

On our first day back in Waikiki we visited the Waikiki Aquarium . What could be more logical than visiting one of the world's great aquariums in the middle of the Pacific Ocean?

Well, to be honest, I had no great desire to visit the Waikiki Aquarium since it reminded me too much of a museum and I have an aversion to museums. Be that as it may, it was high on Barbara's list of things to see, so there we were .....

From the website:

The Waikiki Aquarium, founded in 1904, is the third oldest public aquarium in the United States. A part of the University of Hawaii since 1919, the Aquarium is located next to a living reef on the Waikiki shoreline.

Our exhibits, programs, and research focus on the aquatic life of Hawaii and the tropical Pacific. Over 2,500 organisms in our exhibits represent more than 420 species of aquatic animals and every year, roughly 350,000 people visit the Waikiki Aquarium.

Well it seemed that Barbara was intent on seeing and photographing every one of the 2,500 organisms in the exhibit . The visit felt endless to me, and it was only Barbara's apparent delight in what she was experiencing that kept me going till the end.

I admit that at this point I was just about worn out from sightseeing and all I wanted to do was relax and enjoy the scenery. I was therefore less than enthusiastic when Barbara indicated that next she wanted to visit the Honolulu Botanical Gardens. Oh my God!....she like flowers ten times more than fish!!!! This was shaping up to be a disastrous day (for me)!

Luckily mental math came to the rescue. When we calculated the travel times by public transportation to and from the Honolulu Botanical Gardens it became obvious that we did not have enough time left in the day to travel there and back and have a reasonable time to visit the gardens.

Now that was a disappointment (to me)!

That left us with going back to the hotel room for some well-deserved rest and recreation.

Our four wonderful weeks spent in the Hawaiian Islands were rapidly coming to an end.

Tomorrow evening Barbara would be taking an overnight flight back to Vancouver. I would follow the same route during the next day. Therefore within two days both of us would be back home in Prince George, British Columbia.
