Waikiki - A Final Look
This was our return to Waikiki after almost four weeks and we wanted to savor the last two days in this Pacific paradise (excuse the exaggeration)
.
The easiest thing to do in Waikiki is to walk "the Strip" along Kalakaua Avenue to just soak in the sounds and sights of one of the most well known places on earth.
By day and by night, it is interesting to walk this area if people and commercialism with plenty of Christmas decorations are to your liking. Considering that our time this evening was limited we just wanted to take it in one more time.
That included another "paseo" along Lewers Street between Kalakaua Avenue and the beach. This little stretch of Waikiki proved to be my favorite due to the ultra-modern design of the stores lining the street as well as the abundance of chic boutiques and art galleries.
Since Barbara's flight to Vancouver was leaving at 01:00 hours we did have the luxury of spending a few more moments together before the airport shuttle would come to take her away, so to speak
. The reason that we were not flying together was that I was flying "on points" and we could not co-ordinate the flight home.
The next morning January 10, 2008 it would be my turn to walk along the beach one last time. By this time I was sporting my newly bought Hawaiian shirt with pride. Upon my arrival in Hawaii, I thought it was "kitschy" to buy a Hawaiian shirt but by the end of my stay I had seen enough of them to overcome my aversion to "buying souvenirs".
At this point, all that remained to do was to take a few photos of myself in my Hawaiian shirt on the beach as a lasting memory of a great trip.
It was now time to go home. There were no regrets. Our Hawaiian experience was a totally fulfilling one that we continued to enjoy, talk and blog about for an entire year.
