School Sports Day

On Wednesday classes were cancelled, again, this time for Sports Day. The last sports day was last term in October. For this school year they were holding it this week. I thought this meant one sports day per term but a teacher told me it was for this year, it just happened to a be a few months after the last one.

The students had made cariciatures of the staff and had been on display outside the staffroom . I looked and didnt see one of me. Then I was told there was one and when teachers took me back they showed me which one it was. I recognized the principal next to me and I thought it was two pictures of him.

For sports day it was a lot of similar events from last time. Each class had a team costume and there was a tent around the perimiter of the field for each class where they each had a class banner hanging. After some warm up exercises and speeches the events began.

First it was team relays around the track. After that several silly games you would see on game shows, like a three legged race with obstacles thrown in such as skipping a rope three times, or carrying a marshmellow in your mouth.

My favourite was the human centipede, where the class all bends forward while one student runs on their backs, and they run back to the front of the line for the student to carry on running forward . Its fun to watch but I guess it must hurt. There was also tug of war and other events.

After lunch I stayed in the teachers room to get my korean homework done from the nite before. After about an hour I went back down. I made it in time for the fun events. First a group of girl students did a girl pop band dance routine to wild cheers from the school. Next a boy group followed to even wilder cheers. Then they combined for a mixed group.

Next many of the teachers did a pop band dance routine which I had been told about previously, yet no-one thought to include me? I also never noticed we were in the flight path for the airport and lots of military and civilian crafts were flying over our school regularly.

This weekend am off to the Ulsan Whale festival which I think will be quite fun.
