Journey time between the two is only 10 mins faster on the express at 43mins vs 53mins on the local train. The only other advantage is the express has nicer airplane style row seating whereas the local is a typical subway car.
Both trains will stop at Gimpo airport on the way to Incheon. Gimpo is the domestic airport whereas Incheon is the international. Also on the train they will show you real time departures and arrivals.
Another unique feature is if you are travelling on Korean Air or Asiana Airlines they have check in counters at Seoul Station when you buy your train ticket, where you can check your luggage and get your boarding passes. You can also clear immigration before even arriving at the airport.
At the airport you will get your 500w (.45 cents) deposit for the payment card back. There was also an indoor skating rink by the airport station. Wondering around looking for the free internet lounge they also had free showers but the towels had all run out.
Incheon airport also has a cultural experience area to try out traditional crafts and a permanant exhibitin of korean traditional crafts. Here is an earlier entry with more pics.

Incheon Airport looks fabulous. Love the ice skating rink. It has certainly changed a lot since I was there in 1994.
