The weekend street festival downtown was due to climax with an evening parade. This was the first time Daegu has hosted such a parade by shutting down a major traffic avenue. Many were lining the parade route for the hour leading up to the parade in anticipation and hoping to get a good view. 


 



  












 
I was a bit further up from the parade start route at Yangyeongsi the Herbal Medicine Street. Large overhead display screens had been set up so people could see the oncoming festivities. 

There was a group of dignitaries presiding over the events, including the Mayor of Daegu, who were welcomed out first to their reserved area. 

This was followed by a flash mob style dance group performing to the latest dance craze sweeping the nation started by PSY with his signature song "Gangnam Style".

After performing their dance routine the group fanned out and the waiting participants of the parade began their march. 

There was an array of detailed costumes and a lot of work had gone into design, make up, and presentation. "Gangnam Style" has become the unofficial party anthem and was blasting on all the speakers as each group of parade participants would pause and perform their 'Gangnam Style' dance decked out in their costumes. 

 
 
 
 
 
 





















































































 

I wasnt in the right spot where people were pausing to dance and many in the crowds were moving to those areas causing more congestion making it harder for us further down to see the events. 

I ended up moving down for a better spot and realized that closer to Yangyeonsi was an area set up with the officials where each new set of parade artists would come and present themselves to be judged. 

 
 
 


There was a very large crowd here but I was able to find a good spot. It was hard though taking moving pics at night. 

It was a very elaborate parade and similar to the Citizens Parade I had witnessed at Suwon but on a smaller scale. It was quite ambitious for the City of Daegu and I hope this becomes a regular event. 

For this evening the City lived up to its slogan of "Colourful Daegu" as we were dazzled by a spectacle of colours and a range of artistic talent.
