Danyang-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do, South Korea

The final stop of my long day trip to Danyang was to the newly opened aquarium. I wasnt able to find any website or location on google maps but fortunately it was very easy to find as it was part of the newly built bus terminal complex

The Korail travel magazine also did a write up as part of their feature on Danyang

Danuri Aquarium, which opened in May 2012, is the largest fresh-water fish aquarium in Korea with 82 tanks and some 15,000 fresh-water fish. About 13,000 of the fish are native to Korea, including the Hwangssogari golden mandarin fish. The main fish tank boasts a depth of 8 meters with a volume capacity of 651 tons of water. It is a sight of wonder where more than two thousand fish, big and small, co-exist in its fantastic natural ecosystem. Other sights of interest are exotic fish that one only sees on TV such as the black diamond, fresh water stingrays from the Amazon river basin, Arowanas known as the king of aquarium fish, and the largest tropical freswater fish known as the pirarucu.

I was excited to visit as I wasnt able to visit the aquarium at the Yeoso Expo. Checking the bus times at the terminal I had about an hour to explore the aquarium

Entrance fee was 8000w ($7.50). Having been to several aquariums already I dont think this was anything extravagant or special. I did a walk thru in about 15 minutes so used the rest of the time to get some dinner before my bus arrived.

The aquarium is very easy to find next to the bus terminal across from the Danyang bridge which leads to the Gosu Caves (see previous entry). I wouldnt make a special trip to Danyang just for the aquarium but if you are exploring other sites such as the Gosu Caves or Guinsa temple (back two entries) then it will give you something added to do while you are waiting at the bus station.

As the only direct bus to Daegu had already left for the day they told me to goto Yeongju where I could connect to a Daegu bus. Having left home at 730am it was a long day when I returned home by 1030pm.
