Vinales Biking Afternoon

Vinales, Pinar del Rio, Cuba

The rest of the day we had freetime and I planned on finding the bike rental place. This was tricky as its not on any maps and there are no signs anywhere. The trick is to find the big blue restaurant at the start of the commercial strip where they have red ATVs for rental outside. Then go inside the side building at the back and you will see all the bikes.

I was worried all the bikes would be taken in the morning but they had plenty still left. Rental was for $1P/hr so I asked for 3 hours and tried to pay with a $20P bill. They claimed they didnt have change even though there was a wad of notes on the table. Then when I tried to pay for 2 hours as I only had two ones they said wait and went and got change from the restaurant.

First I took the main road out of town back to the prehistoric mural where the bus drove off and left me this morning to take a better pic. The mural is 5kms away and it was nice seeing local life from a slower pace on the bike.

I could have paid to go in but you have a nice view from outside and there where other tourists that biked here too.

I then biked the 5kms back to town to bike around some of the side streets. You see local everyday life away from the tourist strip with kids playing on the streets.

Then I headed back to my hotel by 530 after returning the bike, even though it hadnt been 3 hours as I was covered in sweat and tired from all the daily activities. Although hot water was a rare luxury for some reason the shower only had hot water when I was looking forward to a cool shower.

I also crashed and took a nap as this was the first nite I had some downtime away from all the group dinners.
