Today I was leaving work and taking the UP Express train from downtown to the airport. It had been raining and cold the last few days. Checking the forecast for Ukraine/Belarus the weather was up and down and could be the same.
Train ride from downtown with the Presto card was $9. When I did my online check in my window seats which I had chosen months earlier were gone. I managed to get a window back on the long haul flight to Poland but not for the connecting flight.
I asked at the counter at Pearson airport and she said you had to pay to select seats or the system releases them all which is why my seats were scrambled. She put me back in a window for my connection to Odessa. For my return flight in two weeks I would have to ask in Warsaw and pay to get my seats put back.
The flight to Poland on LOT was an all female in flight crew. The ones making the announcements on the PA was an older monotone lady. I used my eye patch and was able to sleep for most of the night flight. Otherwise the service was very good like Air Canada on this Star Alliance flight.
On our morning arrival in Warsaw my priority was to use the two hour connection to get my window seats back for my return flight in two weeks. Somebody from LOT had emailed me several months earlier that they had assigned my seats at no charge. This was confusing the service desk as they read the email printout and said my seats were ok.
I kept insisting I want to pay and dont want the seats to be released as they had for the arrival flights. They were still confused and called the call centre. Again they kept saying the seats were ok coming back but I didnt trust the system as the seats were not paid for.
Time was running out for my connection so I'd just have to take my chances coming back. The flight to Odessa was less full. The land was much more fertile as we made our descent in this water delta into the Black Sea.
