Nicosia, Nicosia, Cyprus
This morning I was leaving Paphos in the southwest corner of Cyprus and travelling to Famagusta in the eastern end of the island. Due to the partition of the island I would have to travel back to the Turkish northern portion thru Nicosia, and then take a bus across to Famagusta.
On my arrival I learnt the hard way there are two bus terminals. The local terminal is in the centre by my hotel but the intercity terminal is about 3km north. From the local terminal bus 618 will goto the intercity terminal for 1.50 Eu fare.
I was able to catch the 9am intercity back to Nicosia for 7 Eu ($11). We passed thru Limassol to reach the highway north.
As I was transiting thru Nicosia I decided to try my chances at visiting one of the house museums that was always closed when I had tried. Hadjigeorgakis house is on the southern Greek side of Nicosia.
After two tries on the weekend finally it was open. Admission was 2.50 Eu ($3.25). Similar to the Dervis Pasha house in the rear were the bath houses.
The ground floor had some displays and the main highlights are on the upper floor. There was a large landing with several seating areas to keep out of the heat.
The main highlight of the house is the main lounge. After three tries to get here this was one of the highlights of Nicosia old town along with Dervis Pasha house.
