This morning the public holiday was over and so was the bus strike. We used the tokens we had bought for the ferry the night before but missed due to holiday schedule.
As normal I dropped my token by the drivers box and went and sat down. She exclaimed 'good morning' as I hadnt greeted her not used to the local custom. As locals got on they greeted each other and said goodbye as they left.
In the centre were two insurance buildings for Chubb and XL Catlin. I just went to take a look at the company directories. Hamilton was a lot more humid being in an interior bay.
Nearby was the Historical Society Museum which didnt open till 1030am. We went to the City Hall to go indoors.
I'd almost finished a 1 litre slush I'd just got from the gas station when we left this morning. Across was another supermarket and I got another large slush.
Nearby was the big cathedral. The doorways seemed to act like a vacuum sucking in breezes and was an ideal place to stand and cool down.
My friend wanted to visit the Monetary Authority to look at coins and bank notes. You can also buy special coins here.
There was a pink church that was like an oven so I walked right out. We were walking to the eastern part of town where the fort was.
Surprisingly it was free entry. Despite its high location there wasnt good views of the town due to the trees.
There was a long staircase that went very deep down. This actually goes inside the moat walls and leads in circular tunnels.
We came out into what would be the moat as there wasnt much to see in the tunnels except for some ammunition storage rooms. They also had the artillery chain lifts to lift ammunition up to the canons above.
Heading back to the centre of town was the Cabinet Building. As it was in session we were not allowed to view inside.
Just to the north is Sessions House the Parliament and Supreme Court. The court was in session and had three white wigged judges but no photos were allowed. The Parliament was by tours only on certain days.
Heading back to where we had started was the historic post office. Lots of office workers were in Bermuda shorts.
Next door was the Historical Society Museum we had come to earlier.
As most places had been closed yesterday for the holiday the Historical Society which had free entry made up for any disappointment yesterday.
We now wanted some lunch and the tourist info office had moved to the Washington Mall nearby. We wanted to find out if Verdmont House a large period mansion was open today but it was closed Tuesdays.
We then went to the bus terminal, leaving Hamilton heading to the Crystal Caves on our way to the airport. I know there are banking and insurance jobs in Hamilton but I cant see myself working here. It seems more dead than other parts of the island and is incredibly more humid.
