Day in St John's

St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada
This morning was my full day in St John's. It was still mist and drizzle. After breakfast I head out from the university dorms where I was staying. Newfoundland is it's own culture and didn't join Canada until 1949.
My walking route took me past The Rooms which is the Provincial Museum but they said it had geology which didnt really interest me. I continued on to the Basillica.
First I thought it was locked but I found my way in. The interior was quite impressive architecture usually seen in  Europe.
Continuing on I made my way to Colonial House which is closed for renovations.
Just behind is Government House the Provincial Legislature. I didnt know this was by appointment only. You are only allowed to look thru the glass doors in the foyer.
Nearby is Commissariat House. Entrance is $6 and includes entry to Newman's Vaults later. The Commissariat lived alone but seemed to have a full staff to keep all the rooms running.
Back thru the town centre I made my way to Signal Hill. Originally I was thinking of doing this tomorrow morning but decided today was best with no bags. It wasnt easy figuring out where to go and to find the walking trails.
The outer trail that goes along the cliff edge I decided was not safe with the rain and my issues with heights along the cliff edge. I found another way back thru the interior.
It was very foggy with lots of drizzle. I didnt know at midday the fire the canon so I was perfect timing for that.
Inside is where Marconi made his first radio signal to England but nothing to see from the top with all the mist.
Nearby is the Geo Centre a more modern museum. I didn't know you needed a ticket and went down and they never asked for one.
The Titanic exhibit was the most interesting but they also had Geology and Astronomy as well as oil exploration so quite a bit.
Back in town I didnt know today was gay pride. It seems mostly young people taking part.
I needed food and was looking forward to cod and chips in Atlantic Canada. One restaurant said they ran out of cod last night. Too tired to search I went to a poutine place next door.
It was an interesting day exploring St John's except for the weather. I found it odd that in July peak tourist season there was almost nobody here except on Signal Hill
