This morning I had met with Tony @travelrealrussia.com who was going to be my guide for the next six days on the Golden Ring Tour. The first thing I had asked to see as we were leaving Moscow was the Cathedral Mosque. I decided not to come yesterday by Metro since Tony would have a car, so why do the legwork myself.
Tony explained he had been studying medicine nearby during the years of construction. There are few Mosques in Moscow despite the Muslim population so it is not able to handle capacity.
The Mosque does not open until 10am and entry is free. It is three tiers and we were only allowed to goto the top level.
There is a Museum of Islam but it wasnt open yet. The interior was very interesting and not something you would expect in Post Soviet or Orthodox Christian Russia.

After Kazan and Nizhny Novgorod this was not to be the last Mosque as Tony told me there will be more in northern Russia.
