Suzdal Kremlin, Vladimirskaya oblast', Russian Federation
Rounding off my day in Suzdal there were more Churches, Convents, and Monasteries to visit along with the Kremlin. After doing our tour of abandoned churches outside the city we came back to the northern end to explore a monastery and convent.
The big red one with impressive fortifications we did not go inside. It is now a city museum but was used by the church in Tsarist times as a prison and a gulag in Soviet times.
Across the river was the white Pokrovsky Monastery. This is still a residence used by nuns so the grounds had restricted access.
Then we went to the municipal cafeteria for lunch. Tony said the food is good and cheap which it was. My meal which had large servings was 325 Rub ($6.50 Cad). The bread was extra tasty so I bought an extra one for take out.
Toward the centre of town is another red monastery in more decaying state of repair. The twin tower entrance is an impressive landmark.
After visiting the Wooden Architecture Museum (previous entry) we crossed the river to the Kremlin. Entrance was 400 Rub ($8 Cad). There is a church and palace in the grounds.
The church was very impressive with rich blue paint and artwork across the columns and ceiling. The Palace was used as a museum now.
