Continuing our northern route on the Russia Golden Ring we were leaving Ivanova and heading to the town of Plyos on the Volga River. We passed thru wooded forests and the roads were quite well developed and safely driven despite youtube videos of crazy Russian drivers.
The weather was still up and down and about 6 degrees today despite being late September. Tony made a stop at some buildings which had murals for the 1980 Moscow Olympics.
On arrival at Plyos we drove to the top of the hill and Tony told me to make my way down on foot via the church and cemetery. He said I needed an hour, I wasnt sure why?
The church was a traditional wood church. The interior was the same as a regular Orthodox Church but instead of blue painted murals everything was carved in wood.
The cemetery had interesting crosses made of metal but it was colder at this higher elevation and I had to wear my hood and muffs so made my way down.
At ground level it was slightly warmer with less wind. There were docks for cruise ships and its probably busier in tourist season. After I was trying to find Tony and couldnt find him at first.
We then drove to a restaurant for lunch. I didnt want to eat in Plyos as it's already touristy so wanted to spend where tourists dont go and they can do with the income. We went to a cafeteria style restaurant and my meal was 268 Rub ($5 Cad).
